Blasphemy, I tell you, blasphemy!
I remember being a kid and watching my dad about fall out his chair with laughter just from the commercials. Mom refused to go see such a "crass" movie, so it was just me and dad. To this day, I don't think I have ever seen my dad laugh as hard as he did in that theater. It is still one our favorite movies.sigpicComment

I remember seeing the advertisements for the film, and recognizing Ralphie as "Messy Marvin" from the Hershey's Chocolate Syrup commercials. I didn't see the actual film until I was 12 or so, and by that time, I was just old enough to begin feeling nostalgic about my earlier childhood. And the dad was dead-on my old man, so I could relate to Ralphie. Now I relate to him instead of Ralphie!!!
It's a Christmas tradition to watch the film as we decorate our Christmas Tree. And of course to watch bits and pieces during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day festivities.

I absolutely love "A Christmas Story" and would probably be ok if they devoted a channel to it that would show it 24 hours a day each December.
My feelings on this "2" version are mixed and I bet it probably shouldn't have been made.Comment

This year at the CNE my wife and I found a store of merchandise from "A Christmas Story" and "Christmas Vacation", it's obvious that the films are evergreen cash cows for the studios. I imagine that this film will be bundled with the original and sold at Costco during the holidays, forcing it on an unsuspecting public.
I can't wait for "Christmas Vacation 2" starring Rob Schneider as Sparky and Anna Farris as Ellen. Special appearance by Randy Quaid.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

God, I hope not cause if Anna Farris is in it, I'd have to watch it. She. Is. Awesome. I'm really hoping the rumors are true and she show up in Ghostbusters 3 one day...."Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment

Farris was a poor choice for that analogy because I admit, I like her too. Paris Hilton would have been better.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I think WB makes a crapload of money off of "A Christmas Story". My son thought this trailer looked pretty bad and asked me why they would make it with no original cast members. "Greed", says I.
Daniel Stern's bad Darren McGavin impression is enough to scare anyone away.

What is really odd for me is the following for this movie, I saw it in the theater when it first came out. It kind of bombed and i couldn't figure out why.
Years later it was hard to find anyone who had seen it, I even introduced my wife to it and she showed it to her parents. Now it's a holiday tradition with action figures?Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Action figures and resin leg lamps are pretty silly for sure but I think the annual exposure to these things kind of make it a bigger hit than when it first came out. It's A Wonderful Life was a dud when it came out in the 40's and now it's THE movie of the holiday season primarily from just getting played year after year. Christmas Story was kind of the same way where when it came out, it didn't do so well in theaters but thanks to annual holiday runs, it's gained cult status. One movie that comes to mind that wasn't a holiday film that had this happen to it was Clue. It was a huge flop in theaters but when it came out on VHS it was sold for $10 at a time when every other movie was being sold for $60 so a lot of people bought it just to own a movie at home. It practically came with your VCR and because of it's ultra-cheap price way more people saw it.
I think with some of these movies it helps if your a kid when these movies come out too. I know a few people that love the Sandlot because they were about 9 or 10 when it came out. I was a little older and today that movie does nothing for me. I just don't see what makes people say it's so good. Up top someone said by the time they saw Christmas Story there was too much hype on it. I cn see that too. I saw the first Scream movie in the theaters 5 months after it was released and was expecting to see the new wave of horror and what I got was a total let down because Ghostface was just a crummy teenager in a mask stabbing everyone. Maybe if I saw it when it first came out I would have enjoyed it a lot more."Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment
