if I really needed some extra cash but otherwise I am with you, time off is more important. especially if you are in a high stress position like me -
It's an interesting concept, but yeah, time off is just as important to longevity as the cash. . . maybe more important. On the other hand, in a pinch, the cash could be helpful, and maybe if you have an easy-to-work-with HR person, you could adjust the taxes and any retirement deferrals to be in your favor during those pay periods with the larger gross salaries.Leave a comment:

Okay, end of the work day Friday they passed around a memo saying they want to buy back vaction time. Because of the work load and time restraints they would pay you for 5 days vaction instead of having people be off work.
Now the catch is you have to sell back in weeks, you can't just cash in 2 or 3 days. Its week at a time deal or nothing. Like most people they save up days to use around the Holidays making the most of it. So would you rather have the extra weeks pay or the time paid off. Now remember they probably won't cut a seperate check for the buy back pay, so you'll get boned on taxes when you end up with 3 weeks pay on 1 check.
To me I would rather have the time off. The extra money would be great, but there has to be a time when you can just not worry about work for a week don't you think.Tags: None
