I love the original in all of it's absurdly stupefying glory.
I hope this doesn't suck too badly.
The recent Australian remake was pretty good. Just as dumb and improbable as the original, but still a lot of fun.

It looks decent. North Korea is plausible only because of their aggressive nature. The cast is okay. I will probably take my boys to see it because they love the original.Comment

The film has been finished for a few years now but in limbo due to them constantly changing the enemy to be more so indiscreet and not able to say "oh it is Korea'. They did not want to offend any nation out there.
Film looks like the same mediocre crap that most remakes pose. Does not like that good at all. Would rather watch Swayze any day"What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hells Angels is currently unclear,"

i love the original too. this looks good but in a differnet way. the enemy was originally China but they changed it and digitally changed the flag. they said so they could air the movie in China but I think it was so we don't offend themComment

From the trailer it seemed like they wrote in a crazy sci-fi element to try and make N. Korea's invasion more plausible. I think it's pretty obvious they wanted China to be the baddies, but knew they'd get blasted and knew it was a stupid business move. To me this remake seems really silly, because it just doesn't seem like a relevant concept for right now.Last edited by Brazoo; Aug 12, '12, 3:14 AM.Comment

>The cast is crap and the US get's invaded by North Korea ? ... C'mon ...
I know! Not like the plausible way the original worked, where Russia could only invade a small heartland town with the combined might of Cuba! HOW can you bring down the west without Cuba's mighty army?
>This don't even look like a guilty pleasure
Sobering thought: it WILL be, for somebody.

yes but at least in the original they let you know there was a small nuclear exchange (and evidently effective) first before the mass invasion. Take out the main US sources (Washington and possibly a few others) and really you can invade the country from wherever you like. They also did not have the full technology that we have now so it is way more believable than a country trying something like this in the present with the huge amass of cell phones and tablets to get the word out quicker.. then again it is just a movie and sometimes you just go with itLast edited by mazinz; Aug 12, '12, 2:28 PM."What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hells Angels is currently unclear,"

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The premise only works with Canada as the baddie. Nothing else comes close.

The original movie had an unrealistic plot - almost all movies do - but I think at least it did what a genre movie like this is suppose to do and preyed on fears/fantasies of the audience it was made for. So maybe not realistic - but I think a little better at suspending disbelief. At least with it's target audience. I don't think kids today are going to by/buy this - because I don't think this concept will strike any chord with them at all.Comment

I remember when the Soviets shot down that Korean airliner and it got pretty nasty there for a while.
Today's kids never experienced stuff like that...
Not to belittle it but 911 don't compare in the slightest.Comment
