I am deeply saddened at the final results. To find that their was a big coverup by Paterno and everyone else involved in the football program and the university itself disgusts me. As someone who experienced my own problems, it took me 30 years to accept it happened to me years ago. My mind buried these memories deep and were only brought forward by this case. And now we learn Paterno and the university covered it up cause they wanted to protect the school and the football program and sandusky. And that when Paterno learned of what happened in 1998 he sat on the information before telling anyone. What the heck was their to think about? I can't imagine how they could put the young kids who this stuff happened to behind their own agendas. Makes me physically sick to think about the number of innocent kids who could have been saved if that monster had been stopped in 1998. Now because of the selfish acts of this school and staff their lives were forever changed. If i could, i would go up their and smash that statue myself. I don't care if Paterno won 10,000 games. What he did or didn't do is pathetic. And he will never have to face any of this now. I do feel sorry for his family though.

Every championship record that Paterno was involved with needs to go be abolished.
Money, championships, and all this other crap should never take the place of stealing a childs innocence away from them.
incredibly sad for the kids and families.Comment

Football is a game. Apparently Paterno thought life was a game too. It's just like my dad always taught me - "You can't do something wrong and come out right. What you did wrong will find you." It's true. And this case proves it all the more. Everything they did to cover up the case came back TEN FOLD to bite them. Had Paterno done what he was suppose to do he would have died with his legacy intact, underscored by busting Sandusky. But instead, his legacy is forever destroyed because what he truly valued was self gratification and a public facade that was never true. He dies a coward and an enemy to children everywhere. He gets the legacy he deserves.Comment

Look - I too am sickened by everything that happened but once you start stripping records and nat'l championships and bowl game championships you punish every athlete at Penn State that had nothing to do with this. You can't just abolish records from history with an asterisk - and it's a long history. You'd basically be wiping out 60 years of Penn State football. I'd be hard pressed to believe PS administration would delete 60 years of history for something that happened in a 10 year span?

The Paterno statue should remain, but under penalty of law, no one should ever be allowed to clean the bird crap off of it.Comment

I also think paterno's family is in denial. It has been proven paterno knew, how can they even still say he didn't. They need to STFU at this point. The statement they made is a dang joke.Comment

Yeah but those were 1 or 2 seasons worth of results and the punishment was based on what coaches AND players were responsible for. Not 60 years where no Pen State players that we know of were involved in the scandal. And all of those you cited were NCAA investigations - this was a criminal investigation. It's just my opionion and it's not based on any respect I have for Paterno. It was obviously revealed that he was as sinister as Sandusky.

We are all entitled to our opinions. I respect your point of view on the matter

Also, they should melt down that statue of Paterno and make big bronze weiners out of it then give one to every one of Sandusky's prison mates.Last edited by enyawd72; Jul 12, '12, 1:43 PM.Comment
