Estate Sale Tomorrow - Major Mego Collection

I'm torn. I can't take my mind off it. But will waking up crack o' dawn and taking the train be worth it?

    I just do not know.

View information about this sale in Bellmore, NY. The sale starts Sunday, July 8.

    Check that out.

I just feel like they are going to ask for an astronomical price. Especially since they are making them featured items and well....the organizer isn't the most reputable guy. I've heard more bad things than good about him, one of which is crazy high prices. He had the show "Big Brian the Fortune Seller".

Now.......I am going to look at a large GI JOE collection. If buy that, no Megos. My bank account isn't looking good.

I estimated the value of all 17 to be around $900 (am I off?)

    What would you do?

I figure since the Toy SHow is the same day, I stand a change at getting them.

wow, nice group of heroes. I would think that you should be able to flip those since they are in such nice condition...depending upon the price. But...you will never know if you don't go down there.

If it were me, I would go for that many. He might cut you a deal for buying all of them.

I would go for it. If the price isn't right, then at least you will know and never second guess yourself.

That's what I think. But I told this guy I'd meet him about this Joe stuff...so.

Anyway, I just feel it will be a waste. This guy running the sale has a horrible rep.

The Joe stuff I bought is all 80s (I consider 80s to be vintage TOO, hehe).

I would go, but I'd have to take a cab to the train station (which leaves at 5:50AM). Then sit on the train for over an hour. Then take a cab to the sale. Repeat all that in reverse.

There will most likely be a huge line outside the house by the time I get there. If I was going just to look, I can do that online

Here is the Joe collection I just bought. He said it was all 100% complete, which I didn't believe...but sure enough, he was actually right. Few things are missing.

                        Not bad for $220.

I stayed home and had my own little sale. Made some, rather than spend.

I called anyway at like an hour into the sale and was told there was only like 10 left.

Trust me, you didn't miss anything. I took the 25 minute trip and was highly disappointed. The guys that were handling the estate sale had no clue about the value on the figures. Put it this way, they were asking $600 for just the Supergirl and Superman figures together. They were also asking for $600 for the set that had the Batman figure in it. BTW, there is NO WAY that anyone that knew anything about toys that would buy any of those figures for what they were asking. I was there about an hour checking out stuff..and after the Mego prices I was afraid to ask on other stuff. They had a nice old Victrola missing the speaker box. Those figures were still there an hour into the estate sale. I got there about 5 minutes before they let anyone in. If someone did get suckered into those Mego figures I hope they know that about half to 3/4 of the figures had repro parts on them. Here was the breakdown on the Repro Parts:

Iron Man's Belt was a Doc Mego home made belt. Sticker where the button is was also repro.
Caps Star was a repro...and to boot Cap was pinned through the back of the shirt to stay put in the display case.
                              Repro Gloves on Aquaman
Repro Capes on Batgirl and Batman
                              Repro Gloves on Batman
                              Repro Belt/purse on Batgirl
Repro gloves on Robin aas well as the sticker/emblem
Repro Emblems on both Superman and Supergirl
I'm about 90% positive that the shoes on Supergirl were also repros
I really couldn't tell opn the Goblin satchel or Green Arrow if anything was repro.

I think the only good pieces there were the Lizard, Goblin, Catwoman and Riddler.

My thing is if this is an Estate Sale...why are they pricing stuff at 10 times what they are worth??!!??

You didn't miss out on anything. I did better at Garage Sales today. BTW, if anyone was interested in any of the swords...they were ALL REPRODUCTIONS. One of the guys that was on line in front of me was a dealer in swords and said that they were all reproductions. I have to say though...it was a nice little house. Little starter for a just married couple. Hope they do better with selling the house than they did with the Estate sale.
