The Andy Griffith Show (first 5 seasons B/W) is my favorite TV comedy of all time.

                    RIP

Rest easy, Andy, rest easy! You're up there with Barney, Gomer, Floyd, Otis and Goober, so it must be a little like going home...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

The Andy Griffith Show to me, is the greatest sitcom of all time. It's timeless. I saw several interviews with Griffith where he said he quickly figured out the show would work better if he played the straight man, and left most of the comedy to Don Knotts. That says volumes about Griffith, allowing his co-star to upstage him was his OWN idea.

An American icon for sure. Like mom (or Aunt Bea) and Apple Pie...

                        Rest in Piece, Anj!

Sad to see this. His monologue/bit from years ago about being a country boy watching a football game is priceless. RIP

                              Griffith was a fantastic talent.

^ What It Was, Was Football is a great bit. Right up there with "Who's on First."

"No Time for Sgts" is great, but my favorite film of his is "A Face in the Crowd." He gives a fantastic, manic dramatic performance as Lonesome Rhoads. It's on TCM at 12:45 a.m. Friday. Set your DVR if you've never seen it. Film is as true today as it was in the 50s.

Lyrics to the Andy Griffith Show theme song, Fishing Hole.
