KNIGHT RIDER was a very successful show

also...the concept of a man teaming up with a computer whose "brain"
carries out actions as a vehicle is a great movie concept...as a TV show remake..
.hmm..I don't know----making alotta episodes consistently good is difficult
with any concept---regardless of how great it is

Hollywood could do alot worse recycling ideas...I think its a great idea to try
this concept for a new generation and title it something marketable (recognizable)
    for the older folks

I hadn't thought of it before, but there were a LOT of car shows in the 80's.... Are you maybe thinking of "The Highwayman?" The truck turned into a helicopter too. Sort of.
Yeah, that sounds like what you're thinking of. Jetto's Tractor Trailer looked just like a car in front. I have each and every episode!

Looks interesting. So is this a total remake or Knight Rider the next Generation?

The "Hoff" is in this, so I assume he's passing on the torch.

That aspect is a treat in my eyes.
            Nice touch.

The producers say this is a sequel, not a remake, so I guess its a torch passing.

But will they be able to re-create the subtle writing, unseen plot twists, deep character developments AND the unquestionable level of acting by one David Hasslehoff? I think not, my friends. I think not.

All sarcasm aside...THAT is oh so important in today's "thick" marketplace

In the 80s, vapid (but FUN) action shows like KNIGHT RIDER could coast
a bit more on such things---
in 2008, a time where there is much MORE to watch on TV (and therefore
MORE quality programming)---there better be some "upping of the ante" or,
as others have predicted---this thing'll be gone before it begins

You sound almost proud of that......

                    >In the 80s, vapid (but FUN) action shows like KNIGHT RIDER could coast
a bit more on such things---

Well.... sorta I guess. A lot of interesting concept shows died back then. A lot of it was really poorly done. They seemed to rely more on the base concept than any real character, plot, or presentation. ("The Highwayman" comes to mind...) Some of 'em took nonetheless. "Night Rider," "The A-Team," "The Fall Guy...." They were all stripped down and shallow versions of ideas that had come before; but folks liked 'em. (Night Rider really was just a buddy cop show, where one buddy happened to be a car.)

I get scared whenever I see a remake simply 'cos the idea that they're doing a remake to begin with shows a reluctance to do anything new. I fully expect stuff like the new Night Rider to be just like everything else on tv right now.

I wonder if the evil twin's gonna be a Saturn?

Replacing the "other buddy" with a car = GREAT IDEA...which was/is my point
(or, at least one of 'em anyway)

                      "Resembling another idea" ???
Who should really give a dang??? ---

Your posts (in many respects, if not all) come across as negating any idea that
vaguely resembles another as if that's a sin unto itself---when really it comes
down to if the show is entertaining for a good-sized audience or not---and --most
importantly, I'd say, if its entertaining for yourself---

Billions of human brains have been pumped out into existence long before
TV and movie ideas were created
and those human brains haven't evolved or transmutated into anything all that
progressive in thousands of years----so I don't really expect that kinda "newness"
out of TV/movie entertainment--things that really have only been around
                      for mere decades

Alot will depend on how much they change. Change to much you loose the feel of the original. Don't change enough and it is a joke. Very few get it right, Battlestar Galatica hi it on the head. Bionicwoman changed to much. Have to wait and see how it comes off.

If you really think about it, the potential for this to be better than the original, imo, are... Pretty Darned Good. The ability to replace William Daniels as the iconic voice of KITT, not so much.

Agreed. Highwayman was a Fantastic Show. Wish it would come to DVD.
