I think they would have been lost in the cracks had they released it when they did. I've been thinking about it all day at work. I work at a movie theater so I wasn't slacking lol.

They probably felt it best to delay the film until a time when they could properly get an audience. Traditionally March movies don't really do well though. Then Hunger Games came out and proved that it can work. Not that GIJOE is on the same level as that but...

The new release date puts the film squarely in the final month of storylines for Wrestlemania 29, so it stands to reason WWE will be tapped to help with the marketing campaign as Johnson has already stated he would be appearing at the PPV.

I personally doubt Hasbro had much of a say in this. My guess is Paramount Pictures panicked after Battleship not doing as big as expected. Hasbro has a lot to lose on this being pushed back. They and retailers are now sitting on a ton of toys for a movie that doesn't come out for a year. That can't be good for Hasbro or the Gi Joe brand.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

According to this, the movie wasn't screening well and they are doing the 3D thing along with some re-shoots.
