I've said it before and I'll say it again... I worked for a small, locally owned audio/video store when Best Buy and Circuit City came to town within months of each other back in the 90's. Their cutthroat tactics we're hard to overcome. So, I'm not sad to see either of them go.
BTW... the small A/V store is now celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Amazon nearly always beats Best Buy's price, as does Wal-Mart and most of the time Target on DVDs, Blu-Rays and CDs (yeah I still buy em), in my area.
Wal-Mart's not going anywhere, though. It not only puts the squeeze on locally owned businesses, but also on chains like Best Buy. As big as Best Buy is, it can't compete with Wal-Mart on volume. Wal-Mart has become like insurance providers with its vendors. Wally World tells the vendor what it will pay rather than the other way around just like the insurance companies do with hospitals, doctors and dentists, and all the vendors can say is "Yes, sir, and thank you, sir," because of the volume Wal-Mart purchases.
Wal-Mart will reverse engineer a product to find out if it can be produced more inexpensively than how the vendor is producing it and then tell the vendor to produce the product Wal-Mart's way to save money so Wal-Mart can pay a lower price. If the vendor won't do it, Wal-Mart takes the process to the vendor's competitor. Cut-throat.
Every Tuesday, the Wal-Mart (the stores are across the street from each other) in my town undercuts Best Buy's new releases on DVD and Blu-Rays by anywhere from a nickle to a quarter.
Not much money, but if you are buying groceries, it's a lot easier to get that DVD at Wal-Mart than to drive over to Best Buy after shopping.
I still go to BB a couple of times a month and despite the downward spiral I don't want to see them go out simply because it's bad for the economy. So many places have closed their doors and I don't think the economy's been helped by it.
Media Play went out of business here because of best buy, now best buy is terrible. I use to really like best buys tv series selections, now its terrible.
Why does everyone assume that people WANT to order everything online? How about those who dont even have internet access...
They have said since this article was published that his resignation was due to having an affair with an employee and using company funds to pay for personal expenses.

MEDIA PLAY!
I forgot how cool that store was till they were gone and nothing could replace them. I could go in there and buy an action figure, new release CD, pack of guitar strings and a DC graphic novel. Try doing that somewhere today...
Best Buy can just go ahead and lay in their grave and wait for rigor to set in. They will cease to exist within five years.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.
