Dalton is great - but I think the Bond movies he was in were bland. There was an opportunity to do something new with it when Dalton came in. They made the character more serious, but all the veteran Bond people came back to write and direct and because of that it felt like Dalton was just in this weird Roger Moore era Bond movie with no humor - so I think he just ended up seeming dull - which is too bad.Comment

Dalton wanted his Bond to be closer to the books. Seeing the movies now they hold up better especially since the Craig Bond is the hardcore version Flemming had in his books.........Comment

Well, I kind of agree - but I don't think it's the audiences fault. For myself, I think Dalton's movies were still hammy - but without Dalton being hammy.
Like, they've still got a scene where he's tobogganing in a cello case. They still have the same goofy "Q" (not that I dislike that actor or that character, but it wasn't matching what Dalton was doing). The other character actor rolls are still over-the-top, so the thing that stands out is that Dalton isn't over-the-top, and he comes off as being bland.
I just looked up the guy who directed "The Living Daylights", he directed 3 other Moore movies by that point - and he was the editor and second unit director for 3 other ones. after a key roll in 6 campy Bond movies - I can't help but think a fresh creative team might have freshened up the series and matched what Dalton was doing a little better.
I know Dalton's movies were successful money-wise, and I know people are fans - but for me personally I don't think they updated enough for it to work well.Comment

Well Dalton certainly is the hot topic in this thread which makes the other Bonds seem dull LOL. Hey, didn't Joe Don Baker play a bad guy in Licsense to Kill and another character in Golden Eye Brosnan Bond Movie???Comment

Oh yeah, Is there a Timothy Dalton Mego size Head out there anywhere? I have a Connery Mego Bond and a Moore 8 inch Mego Moonraker-esque Bond, I would like to have an 8 inch mego of all the Bonds, wouldn't everyone like all the Bonds in 8 inch mego form? I pitched this to Doc once but he thought it wouldn't be colorfull enough and it would just be a different head for the same suit. There could be different mission outfits for each movie. What do you guys think?Comment

and correct Joe Don Baker was in the Living Daylights as Brad Whitaker and in GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies as CIA agent Jack Wade.Comment

Dalton had the Look of Bond and when he talked he sounded like Bond IMO Craig to me doesn't have "the Bond" Look or Feel to me he is totally different, I'm not saying its bad cause he is entertaining but just not Bond-Like as I know it, IMO.Comment

I totally get you and where you're coming from, it's the fact that Dalton had to work within the frame of what was given to him at the time.....for me it was a breath of freah air simply cause Moore had done Bond way to long and the movies had declined IMO. I had wished that Dalton would have least gotten a third movie to do....
Did you see "Hot Fuzz"? I thought he was really funny in that.Comment

Moore's last few Bond entries were way too campy, in my opinion.
Like telling that tiger to sit in Octopussy. Too much tongue in cheek humour.
Dalton brought the hard edge back to Bond.
I like Dalton in pretty much anything he's been in. Great in The Rocketeer, great as Prince Barin in Flash Gordon, great in Doctor Who, etc.PUNY HUMANS!Comment
