Moore was my first Bond too, but I really don't care much for his movies now beyond Live and Let Die, which is actually one of my favorite Bond flicks. Too much camp soaked in to Moore's era. He played the part well for the movies he was in though.

    1. Connery-The man. Perfect blend of finesse and brutality.
    2. Craig-His Bond doesn't have time for charm. But he has so much anger bubbling under the surface he's intriguing
    3. Bronsan-I thought he balanced the role well. Points taken away for running like a girl though.
    4. Moore-I wish he'd been able to play him as in Live and Let Die for his whole run, but the series shifted directions. Brought a lot of fun to the role.
    5. Dalton-I really need to rewatch his two entries, but he seemed too wooden as Bond.
    6. Lazenby-I think he played it too broad. Like he was just the guy filling in for Connery in the movie.

Craig's Bond is more emotional - less "cool", I guess. It makes a lot of sense considering the new direction of the movies - making it a series that follows the character on an emotional arc instead of making each installment totally separate.

After 16 (or however many) movies it makes sense that they want (and kinda need) to try something different now.

I always thought it would be cool to bring it back to the Cold War and do it in that period again. When I saw Ewan McGregor a few years ago in that horrible movie "Down With Love" I wondered 'Why can't HE be Bond and look like THAT?!'

Just visually he really evoked Connery and the classic Bond:

I think the main problem there is how these movies are financed though. They're basically paid for with product placement from the car companies and watch companies. Everything Bond uses is BIG money - so doing a period piece doesn't really work with that model, unfortunately.

I always thought it would be cool to have Pierce Brosnan be in the new Bond film as M's Boss, then have Timothy Dalton be the Bad Guy Mastermind. I have a feeling Albert Finney will be Q.

Clive Owen was in the running to be the new Bond, but Craig got the part.
I like Craig a lot, but I think Owen would have been nearer Fleming's Bond.

I heard Christian Bale was considered. He declined it because he didn't want two franchises going. Maybe now he'd reconsider since he's hanging up his cowl?

Oddly enough, Adam West claims to have turned down the role of Bond because he wasn't British. If so, DUMB move on his part.

I never heard Adam West but I did hear Cary Grant was offered the role

He would have been pretty good (in a Roger Moore way)

I like Craig in the role a lot... he brings a certain hard edged quality to the role that's been missing for a long time.
Similarly, I liked Dalton's more no nonsense approach, which was a breath of fresh air after the last few "campy" Moore entries, and would have liked a couple more movies with Dalton as Bond.

He was contracted for three movies, there were rumors that he was going to do The Property of a Lady a short Flemming story. The Film was cancelled when there were legal issues between UA/MGM and EON that lasted for about four years,

He was expected to return despite his contract being up...the movie was then turned into Goldeneye and Dalton walked away from the project.

Both of his movies did very well at the box office, although in the US bad marketing killed his second movie.......

He was approached four different times to play Bond which is pretty cool in my book......

I always thought that Dalton would have made an awesome classic Tony Stark, shame he was too old to play him in the modern movies...he should have at least played his dad......

Alex Ross based his Tony Stark in Marvels off of Dalton, so you came really close!

Timothy Dalton is awesome in anything he plays in, he was a Bond-like catburglar English playboy in Charlie's Angels and Farrah was his love interest. This was pre-Bond maybe he should have been Bond sooner like around the time For Your Eyes only came out.
