I think I can deal with this look because the Lone Ranger was a radio character first, and his visuals varied wildly until the TV series solidified them somewhat. Heck, even Captain Action initially had the red shirts and black pants of the comics.
As opposed to say Batman and Superman, who have had pretty much the same look for 70 yours. With the Ranger, the only two consistent elements were the hat (not always white) and the mask (which sometimes covered his whole face, or his nose, or not..etc.).
Wow, i think those costumes actually look pretty good.
I'll be looking forward to more pics before I pass judgement on this film.
I see a good merchandising opportunity here.
Looks cool so far, really like the look on the Ranger, and Tonto just lose the bird on your head. I doubt that look is for the whole movie anyway, how could that stuffed crow stay up there while chasing bad guys on horse back?

Depp is a fantastic character actor, so I am sure he will do Tonto justice. I am less familiar with the actor playing the Lone Ranger and am not a fan of the black suit he is wearing, but I will hold my judgement.
Besides the aforementioned "I like Depp" posts that I agree with...
I ALSO find it so dang cool that THE LONE RANGER is being revived
in this grand manner... I really, really can't wait... and I really, really
hope it's successful.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
I kinda took the picture to be a sort of funeral scene, maybe at his brother's grave. He is wearing the Texas Ranger badge in it. Hence everyone in black dress.
I'd also assume wearing a crow on your head would be a disadvantage in sneaking up on someone or hiding behind a rock in a gunfight.

Call me easily impressed, but if you are right, that's a great deduction.
Your points about it seem to add up to just what you're theorizing.

The funeral suggestion is a good one. I don't see why the Ranger can't have several sets of clothes, including the blue on blue look, Moore made famous.
I'm all for a more accurate depiction of Native Americans. However, I hope we don't get the Doctor Doolittle take that was so popular when I was a kid.

Could be worse. He could be cleverly disguised as a Hershey's Kiss.
Wait! Armie Hammer? His parents just went with Arm and Hammer? Big baking soda fans, were they?
