I just saw some aerial footage from Lousville and the destruction is scary. If there isn't loss of life, it'll be a major miracle.

From what I have read there has already been lives lost. PLEASE everyone, be careful if you are anywhere near this storm. This is just awful.

We are getting pounded by snow right now in the Rockford area but it's nothing compared to what those poor folks are dealing with in the areas being devastated by tornadoes. Now I am ashamed that I even bothered to complain about a little snow.

I have lived here all of my 47 years. You never get totally used to it. I spent plenty of time in the basement of our house when I was young. My Mom was horribly afraid of tornadoes and for years I was never sure why. It turned out that Dad was working at the Belvidere Chrysler assembly plant when the worst tornado of our area hit in 1967. I can just imagine that she was in a great deal of panic not knowing if Dad was OK or not.


April 21, 1967. ....a time many of us still remember.

The time of the tornado that struck Belvidere was instrumental in the high injury and death count. At 3:50 pm a violent tornado struck as children were boarding buses at Belvidere High School. Buses were overturned, 24 people were killed and 410 injured. 127 homes were destroyed with another 379 damaged. As the storm continued into McHenry county, another tornado touched down and headed toward Woodstock. The Belvidere-Woodstock tornadoes covered 25 miles.

This breaks my heart. Tornados are terrifying.
I can't imagine what it must be like to live in an area where you have to go through this fear every year.

Cynthiana was spared everything but very heavy rain and lightning from the sounds of things. We had two different cells moving around us. We were very fortunate.

West Liberty, KY, not far from my collegetown of Morehead, was hit for the second time in 2 days!!!

From my (far) end of the Earth, whenever I see this on the news I wonder why people live there. Or why the people who do live there don't live underground.

What's the point of putting up nice curtains if there's a chance they'll end up in Oz?
