I now live in hurricane central and its actually better than in tornado land. with the canes you get days and days of warning. The tornadoes were a lot sneakier, it was even worse in the middle of the night.

Tornado warnings in every county around me today, but no touchdowns in my immediate area. Got a lot of hail though.

Alabama has had 17 tonadoes today alone so far. There are watches and warnings expected all through the night. The weather dudes have been on all evening. Going to be a long night.

Knew this was coming. They said in the Huntsville paper a couple weeks back that because of the mild winter, this was going to happen.

I live in the northernmost point of Jeffersonville in southern Indiana. I'm about fifteen miles south of Henryville and Marysville. I got a lot of lightning, got some hail and torrential rain, but, thankfully, no significant storm damage.

My heart goes out to the folks both in Henryville (I've got some friends up there who are actually okay and just sustained some minor roof damage and are without power currently) and Marysville who've lost loved ones and property. For people who don't live in what seems to be an ever-expanding "Tornado Alley", thunderstorms here seem lately like they can spawn a funnel cloud or tornado at the drop of a hat. Of course, our weather here yesterday was unseasonably freakish for the second day of March (almost 80 degrees in some places and very humid) and the NWS is saying that's what fueled the storms.

From looking at the forecast, it looks like the weather will be calming down for the next few days, which is what ALL the folks who got slammed by yesterday's storms need to try and pick up the pieces or, in worst case scenarios, start all over again...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Agreed! Glad to hear that Earth2Chris and EmeraldKnight are okay. I hope MIB41 is unscathed.

About all we got were a few strong thunderstorms. Most of the bad stuff went north of of here. Glad to hear that everyone's ok. Was hoping to hear from Crissman (Steeler80) and see if he's ok. He lives just west of Middlesboro and I hear they got hit pretty hard last night.

It was one heck of a night here as well. I live almost on the TN, Ga, NC borders. We were just North enough that we ended up being ok eventually. There has been reports today of tornados hitting as close as 2-3 miles away. Right around 9pm last night was when things got hairy. The Sirens at the college just down the road from us started going off. The rain was hitting so hard we couldn't hear what they were saying. We lost cable and internet quickly, then the power so all of a sudden we were in the dark as far as knowing where stuff was hitting. The local radio station was knocked off the air as well so the transiter radio was no help either. I haven't been this scared since i lived in south west florida in 2004. We could hear the wind howling as we huddled in the bathroom with our pets. Man seriously, i haven't been that afraid in a long time. We could hear stuff smashing into other stuff outside. It was close to 11pm when things calmed down. Lots of downed trees. Power was out for a few hours as we are lucky enough to be on the same grid as the college. All family and loved ones were accounted for. My wife's Aunt had her house destroyed but she was at my father in laws so she was ok. My heart goes out to all who have been affected. I can still hear the wind in my head and the sound of metal hitting things. Thank god my parents and my wife's parents were ok. We got a little damage to the back end of one of our cars. No idea what hit it but there are 2 dents right behind the back left wheel. I can't believe i even have internet right now as bad as it was last night. The thought of your walls coming down around you is enough to make anyone a religious person. We did some pretty heavy praying last night.

The next county over was ruled a state of disaster. I'm in Jackson county and they didn't rule the same here but i have to think only because it's so vast. Some areas didn't get much. My wife's aunt lived in Murphy and they were hit the hardest. She was the one who had her house destroyed. We are so grateful that even as bad as it was, it could have been much worse. Still the worst storm damage in decades from what i have heard. We went to Walmart earlier today and bought a bunch of water and donated it to the sheriff's dept to give it to those who need it tonight. This is also a big tourist area due to the Cherokee Indian Reservation so at least it's the off season and there is plenty of available hotel rooms. And again, it could have been much worse.

From those who have been able to get back online, I'm glad to hear you are all OK. Some pretty frightening stories to say the least.
                                It's all good!
