Have You Ever Stopped Collecting A Line Becuase It Just Got Too Big?

I pretty much only collect vintage and I pretty much don't collect any line past what I actually remembered playing with. For instance, I have no interest in GI Joe after '89 and even '88 and '89 I am not too fond of.
I can sit here all days and bash modern toys and the stuff Hasbro is putting out under Star Wars and GI Joe. But somebody is buying them, otherwise they wouldn't keep milking them like they do.
I guess I can only speak for the really popular lines that went on forever.
Modern stuff just doesn't appeal to me, regardless if it's based on stuff I love (Star Wars). The massive amount of stuff they release makes it easy to stay away.
The nostalgia and classic look/feel of the old toys is part of what I love.Comment

I never had that mentality... I like to pick and choose figures from lines,
so I'm always BANKING on there being a huge huge amount of figures in
a line.... if not, there's less of my faves to cherry-pick from.
That's what's great about Hasbro Star Wars.... they'll make every character
eventually it seems.
Have they EVER gotten around to STAR WARS: SPLINTER OF THE MIND'S EYE figures???
.... I really want those already after all these years!
I will say that I got "bored" of collecting the Hasbro STAR WARS though....
now, it's just here and there."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Bingo...we have a winner. I gave up on the 90's Star Wars when the really hard exclusives like the Star Wars Galaxy Magazine Leia in Hoth figure came out. I think Porkins was in the original 4 figures that were exclusive to Star Wars Galaxy Magazine Exclusives."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

Yeah stopped collecting Star Wars figures just after the 30th aniversary figures came out, there are just too many variants and who wants multiples of the same figure only to be released on a different backer card later on down the line.
But i have picked up a few of the new vintage style figures, only for that nostalgic feeling.

It was the special mail away figures for the 90's Star Wars that finally did it for me... I think specifically the Han Solo stormtrooper that was a cereal promotion? Most of these did not allow Delivery to Canada. So I gave it up part way through the green cards.
Having missed the boat on Super powers and Secret wars, I wasn't going to let Toy Biz superheroes get away from me.. We all know how that turned out. How could anyone have collected all of those without renting warehouse space? Plus they seemed to be grabbing up any ridiculous character... I could never bring myself to buy Four Arm, or the ugliest action figure of all time, Storm.
Then there was Star Trek from playmates... And I'm not even a huge Trek fan. It was those really limited numbered chase figures like Thomas Riker that got me out of there.
My brother completed his World of Spring field collection... I ad to admire his focus on one singular toy line. I've never managed that given my lack of attention span.Comment

Star Trek Playmates - had it all, sold it all.
Kenner Batman - seemed like it would never end. It finally did.
Starting Lineups - went after Braves and Redskins.
Comics - 13 comics boxes full. Regret selling them.
DC Minimates - wished it had not ended with so few releaseed.sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSHComment

That's never been a problem for me, as I'm not a completist, instead I'm a selectivist.
I just like yanking monsters, creatures, villains, and weird people out of lines.
However, I have very small monies and HUGE wants lists of practically every series....so alas, I'll never be done.Comment

and now decided you're not going to have in your collection?
I mean, I HAD to have a Yarna figure... so I nabbed 'er!
EDITED TO ADD: My cell phone spell correct spelled "Yarna" as "Yarns"
so I just corrected itLast edited by huedell; Feb 19, '12, 12:58 AM."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. For me it was the 90's and Star Trek Novels. I used to pick up anyone that came out. Finally, I realized I could selective and not "miss out" on anything. It's all good!Comment
