Have You Ever Stopped Collecting A Line Becuase It Just Got Too Big?

I started collecting mini-mates pretty much as soon as they came out. I loved those little buggers and got caught in the notion of collecting something new. I've bought every wave, searched out variants and exclusives. And of course, being a nerdy collector, I've kept all the boxes, etc.

Well, after what has to be my 23rd Wolverine variation and hundreds and hundreds of these little guys, I just couldn't do it anymore. I'm raising the white flag. I've run out of space and I just am not inspired to buy First Appearance Sleepover Bruce Banner with footy PJ's and binky. I'd rather put my money into re-Megos anyway.

Did you ever back off a line that you were once full force behind simply because you were overwhelmed?

I turned my back on Hasbro Star Wars in 1998 when I realized it would just never end.

as much of a completist that I am.....I to got pretty far into the minimates hole....have several hundred of them....took a break from them for a while so I dont get burnt out. focusing on my Vintage Thudnercats and Megos for a while.

I also have every single Mighty Mugg.....good thing they stopped producing them. otherwise may have had to quit them, as they take up a lot of space.
      Check out my B / S / T! I have TONS of awesome stuff

I took a break from my Cy girl/BBI collection, I'm missing some key figures that cost a pretty penny that I just can't afford right now....

Starting Lineups come to mind. I started collecting big time in the early 90's and my collection grew so big that I had boxes and boxes of them with many figures that really didn't mean much to me. Thankfully, I came to my senses sometime before Ebay was much of anything, placed an ad in Tuff Stuff and sold off most of my collection while prices were still high.

Same here with the 90's Star Wars line.

It was the millions of variations that killed them for me.

I just didn't care how many circles were on Leia's belt

I loved the time when people made a huge deal of the variatons of .00, .001 and .002 on the back of the cards.

Put me in the same boat as well regarding Starved Worse toys. Add Hot Wheels to that list as well.

I almost HATE the thought of collecting variations of anything. Particularly Hot Wheels. Even though they may be worth more money to some I personally could actually care less about variations. Of course if I see one on the pegs I will pick one up if it is easy to spot. However, For the most part I am not going to dig around in bins to try and find something with a different color windshield, wheel, base, card, tampo and the list goes on and on as it seems never ending with Hot Wheels saga.

Which brings me around to my answer to this thread. I have been trying to actually stop collecting HW's all together. Although some of those darn cars or still so neat though it is hard to pass on some of them.

BTW - I see that Wally's did a roll back on them and they are .97 each AGAIN. That was the price they were before the price gouge started.

I gave up on Star Wars when the 30th Anniversary stuff came out. I did buy some Clone Wars stuff yesterday at Target because I couldn't pass up figures for $2.37.

I could never imagine you going wrong at picking them up for that price.

I never gave up on a toy line for this reason, but it's the main reason I gave up on comic books back in the 90s. When I was younger, and in grade school, I collected a bunch of lines: Alpha Flight, Spiderman, Avengers, X-Men, and a couple others.

By the time I made it to the 90s, for financial reasons I cut it down to Spiderman and X-Men. But then, every other edition was a Foil-Embossed!, Limited Edition!, Special Anniversary!, Collector's Version! and you needed all 5 of the variant covers. And oh, by the way, they're 3x the price of a regular comic. Plus, they made about 5 different Spiderman comics and 5 different X-Men lines and eventually I said, "enough!" and spent the money on questionable women and burritos.

Since then, I haven't missed the comics at all.

Luckily I never got sucked into the Star Wars madness. I think I just bought two of the large figures and that was it for the 90's stuff. For awhile back in the early 90's I tried to buy every new Batman toy that came out but bailed out halfway through the Batman Returns releases, when I realized that there would probably be endless Batman variations, and more movies, on the horizon. I cut my losses, sold what I had accumulated for a bit of a profit and that was it for me as far as new super hero toys go.
