Somehow I went through this whole day today without hearing that this had happened. Heard on the radio about an hour ago. Very sad. RIP.
    It's all good!

A lot of the reports say either her aunt or cousin is Dionne Warwick.

I've never been a fan of Whitney's music, despite recognizing her incredible talent; still, this really bothers me. She left her kids far, far too early. Tragic, to put it mildly and real blindsiding. I knew she had issues, but geez--I wish things would have been better for her.

Very tragic...I was never a huge fan, but she had an incredible voice once and maybe could have come back to it again with the proper help. Sad to see.

According wiki: Dionne Warwick's cousin was the late singer Whitney Houston, and her aunt is Gospel-trained vocalist Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother.

I remember seeing a WH concert back in 1985. The seats were crappy and we had to use binoculars to see her.

Another tidbit that is not well known. Whitney's mom, Cissy, was one of The Sweet Inspirations. They were backup singers for ELVIS during the concert years. I watch the Aloha From Hawaii concert once a year and you can pick Sissy out, no problem. It looks like an 80's Whitney up on stage with him.

I had the pleasure of standing right at the stage during a Whitney concert at Hersheypark stadium in the late 80's. There was a guy standing next to me with his little daughter on his shoulders. She had some flowers for her, and when Whitney bent down to get them, I was close enough to stand on my toes and give her a kiss. It was tempting...

The family released details from what the coroner told them privately. She died from a mixture of Xanax and prescription drugs mixed with alcohol. There was not enough water in her lungs to drown her. They said she likely died before her head submerged in the water. Very sad. As colorful as the last chapter of her life was, her demise was an accident that can happen to anyone. So let this be a frank reminder for anyone who has to take medicine. Be careful mixing alcohol. The combination can be lethal. Here's the story...

She did have a really great voice. It was sad the direction her life went in for awhile. Sad to hear she's gone.

I was hoping it wasnt that but its no suprise. That combination can be lethal.

I would be curious as to the other prescription drugs as well as how much Xanax was taken along with alcohol. I am familiar with Xanax and I believe Michael Jackson was known to take up to 30 mg a day which is definitely a lethal dose unless he built some type of tolerance for it. I don't know if the truth will ever come out, but I am going to guess that she took a large dose of Xanax, had large amounts of alcohol, causing her to blackout and drown in the bathtub. I know what her family is saying, but short of an overdose on Xanax; it really is a safe medication if taken as prescribed even with the alcohol.

                            That rules out suicide too?

That's not Cissy in "Aloha".... Cissy left the group in '69. "Aloha" was '73. The Sweet Inspirations at that time were Myrna Smith, Sylvia Shemwell and Estelle Brown.

What a sad funeral. It didn't really hit me until the pall bearers lifted her casket at the end and they began playing I will always love you.
