70% of the "not interested" so far are Canadian. Just saying.

Most people I know watch it, and are into football, but we don't have nearly the same crazy college football culture here - and I think that drives it's popularity more in the USA. Canadians also don't have any NFL teams - but we do have CFL. In any case, hockey is the religion here - but I don't care about hockey either...

The annoying thing about not liking football in Canada is that we don't get to see the big Superbowl commercials here - not over the local broadcast, anyway.

No football, especially the Superbowl, for either of us in our house. I never learned about football and cannot watch something that I don't understand. Hubby doesn't watch any pro sports either. It was a beautiful night so he was out playing with his airplanes.

The only person being ridiculously confrontational about it IMO is somebody who is pro-football.

I know I personally have no umbrage for people that like it, that would alienate half my friends.

With fellow members running multiple threads and contests on this sport's most celebrated night of the year, I found it a little abrasive to be starting an anti opinion poll with the author egging on and elaborating on negative comments. The thread loses it's suggested 'innocence' at that point. I think the pro-football community showed enormous restraint. My only hope is he never has to read someone celebrating the criticisms of something he dearly loves. And that's all I'm going to say about it.

When I was in the US, I wanted to watch a football game, just to have that experience (being European).

But to each his own. I love Doctor Who, others hate it.

I don't have to watch sports, and I certainly don't mind other people enjoying sports. It's a big enough world...

I was just talking to my wife about it yesterday. The Super Bowl has become an unofficial holiday in the U.S. My daughter had an indoor soccer game which ended just as the Super Bowl was beginning. On the drive home, the roads were practically empty. Both of my parents are/were hardcore Redskins fans and when it was game time; that was our only choice and we enjoyed it as a family. Even if we were out of town, my dad would always turn it on the radio. I have watched every Super Bowl since I can remember. I even have a vague recollection of watching Superbowl VII (Redskins/Miami). My family doesn't really care for it. My family will stop and watch bits and pieces but not like me. I guess I just grew up with it and truly love the game.

I had two tv's side by side. I had zero interest in the game. When it was on I just played video games. I only had it on for the half time show and the commercials.

Interesting...I see this thread quite differently.

Seems to me that the author only wanted some validation for his lack of interest in the game (a perfectly natural response when the crowd runs in one direction and you have no interest in following after it). I don't see anything divisive or antagonistic about any of his comments in this thread what-so-ever. Are you sure you're not reading something into his posts that may not be there?

It's not as though he went into an existing thread celebrating the game and started posting negatively (kinda-sorta like the ASM threads that you & I have both been guilty of making negative comments in), he merely started his own thread seeking confirmation that he was not alone and voiced some honest heart felt opinions (rather mildly, I might add...nowhere near the same ball park that have housed some of the heated and abrasive opinions that you and I have posted on various topics).

It almost seems like the intention of your two posts in this thread is to make EK47 feel even more alienated from the crowd than he already does, I hope I am mistaken. I hope it's just a slight case of over sensitivity on your behalf, sort of like the 70's Kong thing (which BTW did you see that Jessica Lange scored a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance on American Horror Story...I hate to be one to say I told you so...but...I told you she rocked that show!!!)

It's perfectly AOK to dearly love something and discuss it to death. It's also perfectly AOK to not dearly love something and discuss the reasons why. And, most importantly, it's also perfectly AOK to dearly love something and still reserve the right to harshly rip on it every now and then (read KISS).

Right! We don't want to have football fans misinterpet this thread as being anti-footbal because we all know how impulsive football fans are.

"NFL teams implemented a Fan Code of Conduct policy in 2008. The NFL said the Fan Code of Conduct would be enforced during the Super Bowl. According to the NFL, “guests” are required to refrain from the following:

• Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal in nature
• Intoxication or other signs of alcohol impairment that results in
irresponsible behavior
• Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures
• Interference with the progress of the game (including throwing
objects on the field)
• Failing to follow instruction of stadium personnel
• Verbal or physical harassment of opposing team fans


The league also issued an extensive list of items prohibited in Lucas Oil Stadium for Super Bowl XLVI. They include, but are not limited to: backpacks, banners, beach balls, bottles, cans, camera cases and binocular cases/tripods, camcorders, containers of any type, coolers of any size, fireworks, hairspray, horns, Frisbees, poles, sticks, Laser lights/pointers, mace/pepper spray, noisemakers, strollers, umbrellas and weapons of any kind."

Perhaps we could adopt these rules at Mego Museum in addition to No Politics/No religion.
