The Lake Wales store is closing after Feb. 17th. I asked the cashier why it was closing as it had been pretty busy most times. He said that TRU was consolidating with the Babys R US stores and relocating this one to Lakeland about 25 miles away. This is the best part, the store that they are closing is only 5 miles away from the only toy based theme park in Florida, Legoland. Brilliant move corperate.

Anyone else loosing a Toys R Us?
You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksTags: None -
And you consider losing TRU a loss?I look at it as great news for a new better business to come along to take their place.
However, It will be bad for those that are employed once again. So much for job creation. Whenever a company mentions the word "consolidate" look out.

TRU has a much better selection than Walmart or Target, plus its not WalMart. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

I like Target or as I like to refer to it as "Tar-Jay".The only thing that I could say that I "might" miss about TRU would be their exclusive items. Other than that one can always shop on line.

seeing TRUS go down in flames would bring a big smile to my face and tears of joy. I worked for that horrible company when I was younger.....I should've and anyone who makes a career there should have their heads examined. they don't give two hoots about their employees....Comment

On one hand, I would hate to see Toys R Us close. We already lost Lionel Play World, Children's Palace, Circus World, Kay Bee and a few more that slip my mind. Toys R Us is the last of a near dead breed. Even though I don't buy much there, I still like to look around.
Now, on the other hand, their prices are high compared to Target and Walmart. I also had worked at TRU for a short while during holidays for extra money, and have to agree with Kingdom warrior here, they really don't give a hoot for their employees. I won't go into details but it is one of the worst places I ever worked at.Comment

I would only hope that those giant Toy stores disappear and Mom and Pop type toy stores pop up more.....but that's wishful dreaming in this horrible economy......Comment

I live across the street from a small TRU, and it's recently gone a renovation so that half the store is now a Babies R Us. The mall it's located in is a haven for weekend Dads. Not surprised by the BRU conversion though... my 'hood is filled with filipino nannies during weekdays with giant strollers carrying multiple babies/small kids.
I've noticed we are actually getting more Toys R Us Express stores in various malls in the GTA. Nice to see the return of the Toy store to the malls here... I can't remember when the last time we had a major toy chain in malls up here... Dominion Toy World? Toys Toys Toys is only in three malls that I can think of off the top of my head, and Disney Store has gone away for the most part, although Lego Store is moving in.Comment

When it comes to walk in stores, I think Target tends to carry the things I'm most interested in. And they typically BEAT Walmart on price. Walmart is slowly becoming like Kmart. Crowded isles and dirty stores. The shopping experience is typically not something I enjoy. TRU is okay when they are actually stocking something I want. But I can usually go in and come out in ten minutes or less. They do not compete in pricing and let aging product sit on shelves FOREVER at the original price. The first line of Retro Action figures still hang on their pegs. Lex and Sinestro anyway. Four of each character. Still $19.99.Comment

The employees are also super friendly...like Whole Food employees are.
In N Out is by far the cleanest fast food joint anywhere.
The starting salary there is $10-$12 an hour (depending if you start as a cashier or cook)...and with health benefits, vacations, and even retirement packages...young people are dying to work there...but there's a long waiting list.
Assistant managers make around $50K a year...and full managers are paid in the $100,000 range.
Their kitchens are HUGE...and lots of employees...all fresh ingredients too...
Man...I now feel like applying for work there...
