Now THAT IS what I am talking about. I always said that I could move to Mexico and live like a mega millionaire there.

Remember...the poor in Mexico are really poor...but the rich are really rich...lots of billionaires...including the richest man in the world, Carlos Slim Helu.

I've been to Mexico city, and it is indeed beautiful.

Hope to return one day for a longer stay.

Absolutely! That is what I am saying. A multi millionaire here in the USA would be like a mega millionaire there. Definitely a lot more bang for the buck.

It is really sad that the poor have to be poor though in such a rich world that we live in.

Even know things are more pricey here I still like living in the states and would not trade it for anything.

I'm not trying at all to be political here, but if there are so many incredibly rich guys (i.e., "job creators"), why is it not trickling down? Are they not investing back into their own country, or what? Are there simply no jobs?

I'm honestly ignorant about the economic situation in Mexico and wish things were better for the people. I've read the rich enjoy the gulf between the classes and foreign investment is turned off by the institutionalized bribery, but there has to be more to it than that. There's got to be a means of helping these people to better their own lot. Maybe many Mexicans seeing how things could be different by coming North will get the word out back home that it doesn't have to be that way.

Makes me want to go back to Mexico City! There was so much I wanted to see and do that just didn't fit into a weekend.

Mexico has been all over the news this past week up here in Canada... I have no doubt this will impact many travel plans given the amount of cheap travel destinations to warm resorts in various other countries (cuba chief among them).
Mexico resort beating victim emerges from coma - Calgary - CBC News

I personally have been to five vastly different Mexican cities (none of them in the North) and felt completely safe wandering around off the beaten path. Mass poverty does drive criminal behaviour though as human nature goes, and Mexico certainly has it's share. I've heard various stories from friends over the years, and in many of them, some degree of common sense would have prevented a bad situation.
