Benefits of a sugar free diet

I will not tell anyone how to live eat or whatever. I simply want to share my own personal experience with something that has worked so well for me. Maybe it helps someone else, maybe not.

I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes almost two years ago. I initially took it very seriously and did everything I could to turn it around and I got my levels down and manageable. With impending stress with the wife and work I slowly fell back into the abyss eating crap. By this past Christmas I felt as bad as I ever have. Everything ached, couldn't get out of bed in the morning, no energy no nothing. My health and quality of life was pure crap.

Now I'm back on my diabetic diet and can't remember when I felt better. In two weeks, I have eliminated all sweets, no candy, donuts or anything like that. I have eliminated all pasta, white bread and white rice.

My energy level went through the roof, folks. When you get rid of the sugar and carbs that convert to sugar in the bloodstream, your body manufactures it's own energy. I am alert, in a better mood and just feel great overall. I'm also down twelve pounds just by doing this.

I'm not going to pretend it's easy to do the above, it sucks actually. But, if you discipline yourself for a week, you will feel the difference...big time. It's such a cliche, but seriously, if my fat *** can do this anybody on Earth can too.

Sorry to take up board space with this. I cannot stress how much better I feel. I'll be showing up to MegoMeet considerably smaller, but still devilishly handsome.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

My friend i have been doing the same thing for the last 6 months. I was also told by my doctor i had type 2. I have lost 65 lbs in the last 6 months and feel better than i have in a long time. You ever need support or someone to talk to about it just hit me up. I miss the junk sometimes but i do reward myself here and there. I had a mini cupcake earlier..lol And i never eat anything with partially hydrogenated anything.
I wish you all the luck in this journey. And know you are not alone.

Thanks Mark. Now that I'm a couple of weeks into this, it's all downhill. I look at that stuff as the enemy, so I'm not even remotely tempted. I'd rather have some beef jerkey than a Snickers. I have a goal and also have tunnel vision on the way there. I'm sitting at about 270 right now. Hopefully I can reduce that by fifty or so by June. My thai boxing weight was 205, so we'll see how close I can come.

Heck yeah. The hardest thing for me was checking my levels every day. For some reason i could not get over that hump. Now i never forget. I get up, use the can, then prick my palm. I am also determined to have a better quality of life than the last 15 years. It has gotten easier and easier to leave the snickers at the store. I'm just over 300 and i want to get down to my hockey playing days around 210. Maybe not by the next mego meet but not long after. I don't want to go through another summer sweating my butt off.

Good for both of you. I completely empathize, I was also diagnosed nearly two years ago and have tried to adjust my diet accordingly. I've cut out pop (except for one daily diet root beer) and that alone made a big difference. I almost never touch candy, donuts, etc but the white rice is tricky, my wife being Japanese and all. But I'm starting to get used to brown rice instead. My goals this year is to cut down on alcohol (lots of sugar in that!) and more exercise. That should help a lot too.

Good for you guys. I have it, too, and I just don't cook. I really need to start. I pretty much live on pasta, even though I know it's not the right thing. I need to get with it, but just wanted to give you guys a big thumbs-up in support for you guys fighting the good fight.

Tonight was chili and peanut butter sandwiches and a couple Bud Lights. The bachelor life is pretty glamorous, let me tell you.

I am lucky my wife is as dedicated to a good diet as i am. Mainly cause she cooks 90% of what we eat. And soda was the first thing my doctor made me give up. Believe it or not Gatorade was the 2nd. She does allow me to drink the G2 gatorade and i cant even tell the difference now. But i was drinking almost a 2 liter of sunkist a day. Soda is the devil.

The first rule of this all is not not drink your daily allotment of calories. Lots of meat and protein. Brown rice is pretty good depending on what it's served with or in. Wheat pasta can be fairly nasty especially with red sauce. It's great with alfredo. White bread, pasta and white rice break down in the body as sugar.

Even if you're not a total fatass like me, anyone can benefit from this kind of diet. I promise you if you try this for a week, just one week, you'll feel the immediate difference.

Hi. My name is Chris, and I have Type 2 diabetes. Seems like we can start a 12 step program right here. We can all encourage each other to eat right and live more healthy. I am actually excited about the extra miles I will be walking/working each week. Last year I dropped 100 pounds. Put back on 40. Need to take it serious again.....

                      Congrats Scott.
I myself, do not eat much of that Crap to begin with , and try to always have some grasp of what I should be eating, given my job proffession and how physical it can be. I can tell when I eat Crap ..., then try and Work.

What killed me in 2011 is a Dunkin Donuts opening across the street from my store. I became addicted to their bismarks. Dear god, that's a tasty treat. Imagine filling a chocolate frosted donut with buttercream cake icing. I just stopped cold on all of it. My only sugar intake comes from ketchup and BBQ sauce with my chicken/hamburger served on wheat buns. That's it. Potatoes are out too. No fries, chips or baked. I am taking the stance that they are poison and counter to my goals.

I'm just done with feeling bad. My wife's health is failing again, and I cannot be of any use to her if I myself feel horrible. I'm tired of sore knees, tight pants, not being able to reach over and pick something off the ground and wanting to take a nap as soon as I get home. I completely 100 percent did this to myself and I have to take responsibility and undo the damage no matter how painful or difficult. After another week or so I'll check my sugar level again and see how that's working out.

The one thing I have going for me is cholsterol. Even at my heaviest, my levels were very much normal. I could eat a stick of butter and not have the levels increase. So...bring on the bacon, the greatest food ever invented.

It's like you're describing me. I have great cholesterol, but my knees are shot and as soon as I get home from work, I pass out for about 45 minutes. I can actually lose weight easy if I exercise, but that involves me getting off my butt and I've turned much, much lazier in the past five years.
