I totally agree. While 'On Demand' is convenient is cool it does take away from the specialness of things. The high side though is that our kids and grandkids won't know the difference so it only sucks for us old fogies

Great stuff Mike! But you know when I think of Sunday nights back in the 70's for television, I think of this intro more than any other...

It was a staple at our home.

It took a long time for me to be able to watch the first three Superman movies WITHOUT hearing the ABC Sunday Night movie theme in my head as it started up. Even though I saw them in the theater, I saw them more often on TV. Good times.

I love the ABC announcer's voice. The sound of that voice tells me something good is going to be on TV.

Oh yes! Chores and homework done, supper eaten and baths taken, and time to watch that movie together. I was watching part of Grease last night before I went to bed and I remember when it first came on network TV, it was such an event in our house! I miss the anticipation, the specialness of those movies for the first time on TV. Poor kids today, it'll never be that good for them, and the sad part is, they'll never know it.

Even cooler in my mind was the great "made for TV" series of Monday Night Movies with it's sort of downbeat theme music.

Wish I could find the one with the intro to Gene Roddenberry's Planet Earth!

Thats either Ernie Anderson or Don LeFontaine staples in those days in voice over but I get them confused?

I recall one of the first movies I saw on a Sunday evening was "JAWS". I was lucky enough to stay up until 9:00PM that night and nearly crapped my drawers when Ben Gardner's head popped through that hole. I also recall throwing an absolute "hissy fit" when Mom said it was time for bed.

I caught most of the James Bond films in '79 through '81. I remember seeing the preview and waiting all week through school and even the weekend to get to Sunday night! They always ran the first 30 minutes with hardly any commercials and then toward the end, they ran commercials like every 5 minutes. Some of them wouldn't end until close to midnight. I was a zombie the next day.

I love the announcers voice, too.

I remember in 6th grade my best friend got a laser disc from RCA, I think. He had Goldfinger and being able to watch a Bond movie any time was mind boggling tome.
