I can remember when Sinbad was a big deal when they showed that! I can remember everyone in my first grade class being excited about it.
I also remember when JAWS 2 premiered and I was out to dinner with my parents and I was telling them to hurry up so we could go home and watch it. And we did.
I also remember watching CADDYSHACK when it premiered on T.V.
Once we got cable in early 84 it wasn't a big deal for movies to be on T.V. By that time it was waiting for movies to come on tape as we called it. Either renting them or watching them on cable when they came out. I remember being way excited for that!
But yea I really MISS the anticipation from those days! That feeling is LONG gone in todays technology.
    Good post!

OH yes! Begging mom to stay up late to watch the rest of the Sunday Night Movie- since it was a SCHOOL NIGHT!! And convincing her let you use the popcorn machine- you know, the one with the orange plastic bowl with the slots in the top you put the butter in to melt- then flipped the whole thing over and pulled the base off- that was some good corn!!

But weren't you oh so cool if you could talk about having stayed up to watch THE WHOLE ThING the next day!!

Wish I could find the one with the intro to Gene Roddenberry's Planet Earth!

The 4:30 Movie was what I looked forward to everyday after school. I think it was a New York/tri-state area thing:

            The 4:30 Movie

Monster Week. Planet of The Apes week. Martin and Lewis week. Great stuff. Then that damn Oprah Winfrey went and destroyed after school TV. Kids never got to experience what we did when we were kids. Now that Oprah is gone maybe ABC should bring back the 4:30 movie and broadcast the older movies.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
            The beauty that surrounds them
            Isn't it a pity".

Yeah...when movies on TV were events! (I had a thread about this!) Chiller, Creature Features, Kung-Fu Theatre, The 4:30 Movie, ABC Movie of the Week, The CBS Late Movie, The Wizard Of Oz, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang...like I said, kids will never know. All they'll know is reality TV, remakes that don't make it, and talk shows. Poor kids.

It's nearly impossible for today's kids to understand the ONE time a year the Wizard of Oz came on TV was a big deal- like the Charlie Brown specials.

They have lost some of their special since they can be kept on the DVR year round or purchased on dvd.
