    Need help Redecorating, 70's style!

    Hey guys and girls,

I would like to announce that in order to make my toys feel at home I am redecorating to make my place look like the 70's. That's right, you will feel like you are walking into grandma's place when you see the lamb skin rugs, orange curtains, itchy couches and brown furniture.
Why am I doing it? I currently don't have a time machine that works so I might as well bring the past into our time. The reason I am starting this thread is I need some help with it. Does any one have photo's of their place from the 70's that they would like to share? I would like to make everything as typical as possible.
I was thinking of just watching the Brady Bunch to get an idea of what to do, but that is being too narrow minded, plaidstallions will be of help, but I was thinking that every one here would be of great help. I could use my memories, problem being I missed the seventies by a few years.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I would start with some "must have" 70s posters.

These are exactly the posters I had in my room back in the 70s.

Farrah Fawcet...THE poster to have in the 70s
Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman...with full spread cape
Bruce Lee...if you don't have this one, might as well don't get any
KISS...or any rock group of you choice, but KISS posters were the coolest
Six Million Dollar Man/Bionic Woman combo...both running
Star Trek...old school tv shows of course...but the 1979 movie is cool too
Star Wars...only the very first movie from 1977
    ALIEN...barely makes the list since it's a 1979 film

BTW, my older half-brother from Mexico, had his room entirely covered by rock group posters, he didn't have a single television character there, no movies either, just rock groups...from Beatles, Queen, Led Zeppelin. to Joplin, Morrison, and Hendrix, he had them all, lol.

You'd think a Mexican in Mexico would've have something completely different in his room, like soccer posters or something, but no, nothing but foreign rock groups, lol.

Yeah, till this day, he's still a true rock nut, lol.

Here's a few things you can do:

            1) Go to your local carpet store and try to get some shag carpet remnants.

            2) Visit your local thrift store and hit the yard sales. You can usually find lamps, endtables, knick knacks that look like they came straight from the 70s, ('cos most likely they did!)

3)There's always Ebay! You can always find posters, t-shirts (that make great stuffed pillows), rotary phones, blacklight stuff, statues and childhood faves there.

When you finally get it done, post some pics. I LOVE the 70s and would really like to see your groovy 70s pad!

              yes!
great advice guys, I was thinking of going to garage sales, they would be very resourceful for this sort of thing. I will take some pics of the finished result, but don't expect it any time soon, I still trying to cover the Christmas damage (damage to my wallet I mean) and finish of some more Mego. I cant imagine doing up the place 70's style would be too expensive any way, most of the stuff people had in the 70's people are throwing away now.

Also do not forget that you need a great big beanbag, preferably orange, avocado green or yellow. I had two small ones in my bedroom, but my best friend's parents had one of the biggest ones I have ever seen in their living room. It took up most of the space in the living room and it would easily seat 6 or more of us kids comfortably. I'm sure a google search will turn up a ton of places that sell them.

yeah I had a big return of the jedi bean bag when I was young, I think that would look wonderful if it were orange. Bean bags are heaps of fun, I wish I had one right now instead of this blasted half broken computer chair.

Avocado Kitchen Appliances are a must, although Buttercup Yellow will do as well.

Wood paneling is a must with any shag carpeted room, and a linoleum floor for that kitchen

I thought he wanted tp decorate just one room a la 70s style (like a recreation room or basement).

                          The entire house?

                          No offence but...yikes.

                            yes, just one room.
The whole house would probably be a huge project and might devalue my house.
It is just the room where my toys are.
I thought that Lava Lamps where more of a 60's hippie thing. Or am I wrong?

                              Does Anyone Remember?

My Grandparent's had some sort of oil lamp during the 70's that hung in their living room. It had a goddess type figure in the center, and she was surrounded by leaves and vines. When you turned the lamp on, some sort of oil was pumped onto thin nylon strands surrounding the figure, which made it look like rain. I thought that lamp was just fascinating, but I remember my Grandmother complaining that it made a mess. I wonder how many of those ended up in the trash bin at the end of the 70's.
