Teams last forever but a players time is limited and he is the product wearing the brand name.

Cardinal fans have no reason to boo him he gave them everything. It is ownership that has to put out to keep him.

Once upon a time teams owned players like they were cattle they were slaves to those teams with no say. those days are over. good players are like hitmen now going to the team that can give him the best deal to do his job.

Small market teams may not be able to compete money wise with big market but that should teach those owners to learn how to market themselves and develop young talent so fans come out to the ball park and have a good time and see quality baseball.

NOT every player wants to come to play in NY,Boston or LA but when cheap owners don't take their money and reinvest it back into their team. the talent eventually will walk, players want to win and make a good living for their families........
What gets me is all of this crying about how it's unfair to small market teams. Yet look at the 70s,80s and halfway through the 90s. Teams like the Royals,Pirates and so on had no problem keeping up with the bigger teams. People will say things were different than they are today. Yet the NFL has no problems with smaller markets.

Yep agree Steelers are small market yet they win championships and fans are loyal.

The Pirates look like they may be getting out of their hole slowly.

I don't understand what happened to the Royals they once were a dominate team and completely lost it.

I think ownership IMO has to take the blame. drafting good kids and making smart moves to get veterans to play with those kids is how you contend and win championships.....NOT give up and trade young talent away......

The Montreal Expos were notorious for that and that's one of the many reasons they failed

The Money the Angels gave Pujols is not that much more than what the Cardinals offered. I guess he went to the AL because he know he wil need some time at DH as he gets older. The Marlins will win another WS in a year or two and then have another fire sale, just like in 98. Hanley will demand a trade pretty soon. The Mets are trying to rebuild the way they did in the early 80s, instead of throwing $ at free agents like the early 90s. Regardless, I hope Dodger fan Wilpon sells the team ASAP to a Mets fan with money, like that hedge fund guy.

Mets aren't gonna do squat nor win anything...until the Wilpon's sell and are far and away from the team.....they aren't going to attract flies in that atmosphere, no player in the right mind who wants to win championships is going anywhere near the Mets......

Expect Wright and Santana to be gone at the trade deadline unless Wright comes back and is having a monster season with the fences now being moved in........
