I got mine today--the Sideshow exclusive version--and it's true the logo on his chest is lightly outlined in black and his skin does have a slight gray tint. It's still amazing how much the facial likeness really does look like Reeve. I'm glad I got it because I love this version of the character; yet, the Kingdom Come Supes that DC Direct put out is very close to the same level of sculpting quality and costuming, but is about 1/3 of the price. Like I've said before, the upcoming '89 Batman will probably be my last Hot Toys figure.Comment

I was curious if that rumble would make it to this forum. I collect a number of Hot Toys figures and have been watching a lot of reviews on YouTube regarding Supes. And while no one there has shot it down entirely, the problems are obvious by looking at the figure. Honestly? The only difference I see from other premium Superman figures is the head sculpt and boots. After that, it's not unlike any of the other figures you could buy for at least half the price, if not less than that. I chose not to hop on the pre-order bandwagon, because I felt I could eventually pick up the head and swap it out on one of my premium figures. Compared with other Hot Toy releases coming out, like the Jack Sparrow DX (which I ordered and is getting rave reviews), the price point on this seemed way off. And from what I have seen of the Superman "crystal" stand, that was made on the cheap as well. Hot Toys definitely dropped the ball here. I feel bad for you guys who invested the money. For that kind of money you should have gotten a much better body and a Clark Kent head and outfit to boot. I care little for the cardboard excesses they used here.

Although the box was a neat idea, I would have preferred a normal 1/6 figure box. What Cast-A-Way did with their 1/6 Flash Gordon would've been fine with me and would have saved me a bundle. Seriously, that box probably tacked on $50.Comment

I think that some people are just never happy and dedicate themselves to making everyone around them as miserable as they are. Honestly, what kind of person are you if you can't just appreciate a Christopher Reeve Superman figure of this quality was even made and instead feel the need to pick it apart? It just reminds me of the Louis CK bit where he points out that everything is amazing and no one is happy.

"You're in a chair in the sky!"
Toy collectors today have such insane expectations about everything that they can't appreciate the miracle of even getting a figure like this in the first place.Comment

They did pay good money for itComment

I think on the box issue, most collectors are saying they would have preferred less, instead of expecting more. What I don't understand is the people picking apart the sculpt. Have they seen Chris Reeve? It's spot-on. I honestly don't know how it could possibly be better.
EDIT: I'd like to add something else about the sculpt. With what they're making on bigger production runs and larger market share, why don't we see this quality of sculpt coming from Mattel, Playmates, or Hasbro? I don't see how Hot Toys or Sideshow can afford that level of talent, but the big boys can't.Last edited by torgospizza; Nov 21, '11, 6:42 PM.Comment
