I had someone working for me a few years ago who said she was part of Wicca (she never described herself as a witch). I was curious and asked what she believed and she described it as a Pagan type religion. Didn't mention any goddesses but more of just into praying to mother earth (whatever that means)? I do remember for Halloween she would dress with a headdress of flowers and a elaborate dress that looked like it was from a renaissance festival. She never talked about spells, potions, etc...she was attractive and a very nice person....not anything like the pictures in the article.

I also had a classmate from High School who practiced Satanism...had the Satanic Bible, etc. Again, very nice guy; didn't dress what you see in newspapers. I'm always interested and asked him about the religion. He basically told me that he believed that he should endulge himself however he pleased without feeling guilty about it and didn't really care about ethics/morals, etc. As long as it wasn't illegal, then nothing was off limits. I did ask him if he believed in Satan and worshipped him and he said yes he did and believed in God as well. He did say he would invoke Satan to place hoaxes and curses on people and commented that he was surprised that they worked."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

Yeah, the whole pre-Christian European tradition/Modern Wicca gets a bad rap when it's mistakenly associated with Satanic Ritual.90, Joe 90.... Great Shakes : Milk Chocolate -- Shaken, not Stirred.Comment

Yeah - but that's according to Wiccans, right?
According to judeo-christian beliefs the worship of non-judeo-christian deities IS a sin. It's #1 of the Ten Commandments, after all.
I believe Wiccan (and paganism in general) is often interpreted to be associated with devil worship, in that sense.
I'm just saying they don't have to worship the devil to be CALLED devil worshipers by other people.
Why would Wiccans allow non-Wiccans to set the boundaries of what they are or are not?
And I'm sure that even under the umbrella of Wicca there are different schools of thought, just as there are in Christianity (Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Protestantism of a dozen different sorts) and Islam (Sunni, Shia, Sufism and others).
"Other people" might be mistaken or have some agenda of their own in casting aspersions on another's beliefs. It doesn't make them right.Last edited by StrangeVisitor; Nov 10, '11, 11:15 PM..Comment
