I hate plenty of elected officials here...but I still rather live here than there...

Well said. We take so much for granted here in the U.S. Our forefathers did a great job with checks and balances. Not perfect but it is about as good as it gets. I have visited a lot of first world countries and really enjoy the visit but practically kiss the ground when I arrive back in the U.S. Nothing against any other country but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

It's funny how most Americans see it totally OK for other world leaders to be killed and dragged through the streets. Yet their own leaders (or puppet masters) are just as corrupt. Heaven forbid anyone suggest they should get the same treatment.

Trying not to be specific or political, but there's a famous quote that comes to mind:

"Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

I think it's a universal truth, and I think it's why one of the main purposes of democracy is to put limitations on people at the highest levels of power - it may be flawed, but I think it's a lot better than anything else we've come up with so far.

we may have corrupt idiots in office but we can vote them out and they certainly are not ordering the murder of their own people
