Mil Mascaras is a true legend in Latin America and Japan...the WWE is a recent phenomena in those areas...they are big now...but the WWE has ZERO history in Latin America...so it means nothing to wrestling fans over there...it's all about Mil Mascaras, baby...

I just see it as an opportunity to get some Mil mascaras action figures hopefully the WWE will make one and maybe they can put him in one of their video games.....and maybe a dvd collection

One of the most dramatic things would be when the WWWF would tease him losing his mask. Of course his opponents always tried to get his mask off in every match, but every once and a while someone would succeed, only to discover he had another mask on underneath.

The amazing thing about Mil, was his athleticism and size. He was large enough to compete with the Heavyweights but flew around the ring like a cruiserweight. When I saw him in the early 80's, he was already in his 40's and moved like a 20 year old, and he still occassionally wrestles. Insane. Nothing like seeing a man his size fly over the top rope and destroy Don Muraco (who was HUGE) a mere 10-20 feet away from you in a local High School gym. No mats on the outside, just hardwood basketball court.
I saw Mil back at the Garden when i was a kid fighting Superstar Billy Graham all i remember is this large man moving like a cat and yes his trademark was having another mask although my fave is his classic Black and white mask....

He stayed in great shape over the years and although Mil Mascaras was at first a created wrestler for the movies and originally another man was cast to be Mil ( thank goodness it didn't work out) He showed that he had the skills in the ring as well.

I got to see many of his Japanese matches (on tape)and he was an amazing technical wrestler.....although many wrestlers said he was difficult to work with because he would never sell and heard he has a giant ego.....but then again he is freeking Mil Mascaras, i would too

2 out of 3 match. Mil won the first, Graham won the second, Bob Backlund was at Mil"s corner....Graham applied the crucifix to Mil then tried to unmask him... Backlund jumped in and Mil was disqualified.......from what I heard over the years was Vince Sr. would not let Mil who was the former IWA champion.... at the time the IWA was a threat to the wwwf. so Vince Sr. was not going to let him win the belt.

Factoid: IN the 70's, MSG had a ban on masked wrestlers, which was lifted for Mil Mascaras. In fact, in his first match at MSG, he wrestled another "masked wrestler" (I forget his name) who was still not allowed to wrestle with his mask.
