    Movies in School

Anyone remember watching movies in School when we were in Elementary, Middle, and even High school.
I remember the ancient projectors as well as the film strips when we would play a tape or record and the "beep" sound meant to turn to the next frame.
I also remember our elementary school had one t.v. and all the classes would get together to watch special events.
I remember my senior year in high school it was a HUGE deal that our school got a VCR.
Anyone with kids know what they show nowdays in school?

Back in the day (mid 70's) my school used to always show this one.

As kids we thought it was the funniest thing ever

We used to buy bags of home made popcorn made by the 8th grade parents for ten cents per sandwich bag. One of the movies I remember watching is "Where Angels Go Trouble Follows." I think they showed us a movie at least once a month.

      To do list:
1:6 boots for Mathilda, 1:1 Romulan Commander outfit, Ursus helmet; Cornelius appliance
      1:9 scale ape's new suit for Cornelius;

Very interesting movie Mikey (and strangely entertaining)
In elementary school we use to watch things like MJ's Triller and Harryhausens Sinbad and the eye of the tiger. We also would watch various holiday movies. When we finally did get a VCR ( I think it was around '83) it was various Disney movies. Always looked forward to it although if you didnt position yourself just right on the floor you either ended up uncomfortable the entire film or couldnt see the picture to well...

While posting this I remembered this one from Halloween. Sometimes we would watch it twice in one week we liked it so much. We watched this every year up until I left elementary school. I thought I would never see this again! The glories of youtube! This made my day! Im some of you remember this as well...

Yea, my school was very cool

We lived in a small township ... the school only had 8 grades (8 classrooms)

Our teachers were all straight out of college --- most teachers weren't over 25.

They used to show films like the above in art class .... Many times old Looney Tunes films.

There was a bus safety one that was pretty brutal especially for grade schoolers. Occasionally got to see fun movies, too. A Hammer Dracula for Halloween once.

I remember the film-strips with the records, I always wanted to be the kid that got to turn the dial. only got one chance though

We only saw epic type films in grammar school -- Ivanhoe, the Egyptian come to mind, and some lame science documentaries. Freshman year in HS they showed the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet which was great.

And in Spanish class we got the TV rolled in for Que Pasa USA! those were good days.

For real full movies, the real movies we seen in school were ...

                        Lord of the Flies

The Wackiest Ship in the Army

Heaven Can Wait / 1978 (in high school)

YES!! Do you know what the bus safety one was called? In our school they would only show us the accident sequence and never the whole film. Would love to see or find out what it was called. Likewise they showed another with drunk teenagers leaving a prom or dance and crashing. That too only the accident part was shown. Would love to know that that one was as well

Since we lived near a railroad they showed us a movie of the dangers of playing on the tracks. Didn't show any gore but scared the you know what out of us. They were killed and showed a officer on a train with them in the afterlife going over their mistakes and what they should not have done.

In class we only had the filmstrips of the overhead projectors. In assembly, and Thursday movie day in 4th grade, we'd watch things like The Cat In The Hat, Homer Price and the Wacky Donut Machine, J.T., and this one film about rat prevention. One scene, a baby is drinking a bottle, and has milk all over his face, and a rat came in through a hole in the wall and bit him. Scared the crap outta us kids. That's the kinda film you watch in Harlem NYC school system.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
