Richard Carpenter was pretty wild on the piano. I don't remember seeing another musician who had 7 or 8 pianos/keyboard/organs around them at once going from one to another. I guess one keyboard today can duplicate all of the sounds in one.

I like each of the duos mentioned. Maybe not the Thompson Twins, though
My daughter is really into music and whenever I play "You Make My Dreams" I always ask her how she would like do John Oates vocals....basically just singing "0oooh, oooh" in the background the entire time.

Hall & Oates. They still tour and sound great. Seen them 5 times. Love Simon & Garfunkel seen them live as well and they were great. Their short tenure as a duo and constant compatibility issues remove them from the argument IMO. H&O have a much larger catalogue of music and were far more of a force when they were on top than S&G were when they were popular.

S&G had 3 #1's and 7 total top 10's. H&O had 8 #1's alone, arguably at a time when there were far more bands in the mix. Think about how many of VH1's "One hit Wonders" came from the time frame that H&O were at their peak. It was a flood of bands trying to make a name on the growing pop scene.

I saw S&G on their last tour and sat in seats that were $125.00 each. I got them for free so I went, but would never have paid that to see them. It was a total let's make some money tour. That turned me off. They were great BTW. Expensive but great.

I've seen a bunch of acts that sound nothing like their albums, live. These duos can both sing and put on a fantastic live shows.

S&G without a doubt. Hall and Oats was pure bubble gum music.

Apples and oranges. The music was worlds apart stylistically speaking as was the singing approach. S&G harmonized more than H&O did. H&O may have been on the same songs all the time, but not necessarily singing in two part harmony. S&G worked more towards a vocal quality out of the two part harmony. Whereas Darryl Hall was more the front man, while Oates supplied back harmonies. Not in all cases, but in most.

The Japanese are masters of copying everything.

Check out this Japanese mariachi band...just like the real deal...it even features authentic gritos mexicanos (see below link for definition)...they actually play and sound better than most Mexican street mariachi bands...awesome...

Always hated H & O's music. It's all about Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme.
