    My British friends...

I had a friendly argument with two of my buds on the subject of who has the better fake British accent between Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr.

We compared detective-based British period movies...

Johnny Depp as Frederick Abberline in From Hell...and Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock Holmes.

They say Johnny Depp wins hands down...I say Robert Downey Jr is more convincing (I think Depp's is more forced), and he wins hands down.

    Who is right?

    My friends...or me?

I never seen any of the above but I did like Depp in Sweeney Todd.

    It was surprisingly very good

I think Depp has an odd accent in general....probably comes from being American but living abroad. i do like his english accent though and think it is better than Downeys

I'm no expert, but to me Downey Jr.'s is more convincing and natural sounding.

In "From Hell" Heather Graham's accent and line (something like) "Do you have little ones?" made a friend of mine bust out laughing in the theatre. I'm not a fan of that movie at all.

I liked Depp in "From Hell" i think he was ok doing the cockney accent,i have not seen Sherlock Holmes so can't comment on who has the best British accents out of Depp or Downey Jr.

Small island, so many regional dialects. I'd say they both do a decent job, much better than most.
Now a Brit pulling off a Baltimore accent, that's talent. Dominic West nails it for an outsider.

Well great...not one single Brit has come to the front and end this debate...so far just a bunch of yanks and canucks...and the two Brits...one stuck a tongue at me...and the other hasn't seen Sherlock Holmes...

Well then, there's only one logical solution. I prefer flying into Heathrow, but that's just me.
