I used to have a second job at Best-Buy working in their then version of the Geek Squad. The work was easy enough, but the policies were my problem. I was let go over a sales push for computer repairs. A tech somewhere in the Best Buy chain wrote a registry hack that removed some unnecessary items from starting up and tying up memory; in addition the hack sped up the mouse response time by removing some of the drag. They were all repairs that really did not do anything to speed up the computer, but we were mandated to push the hack to every customer who came to us for repairs and charge them $45 a pop for "system speed maximizing". I told the managers it was a rip-off, the registry hack was all smoke and mirrors. Needless to say my employment was no longer necessary."Procrastination is the art of planning for tomorrow."Comment

I would buy big items from there like tv's, etc. from there if for anything, just to take advantage of the deferred financing. I always pay it off so never pay a cent in interest."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Best Buy is hit or miss, especially online. We just bought a house and are remodeling - looking around for appliance prices BB seemed to be pretty competitive particularly for delivery/install. Their big problem is they advertise items in-store and then tell you "oops, sorry all we have left is the floor model". Then we went online because they had a good name-brand diswasher on their website on sale and lo and behold it was completely out-of-stock and unavailable for pickup anywhere. Nowhere on the page did it list the item as out-of-stock until you get to checkout and try to choose a store. Needless to say we went somewhere else and I will probably only go there in the future for Xbox games.

Also, if you've done any real shopping for big-ticket appliances (which we have over the past month) you'd see that the stores you listed are expensive and they charge upwards of $150 to deliver/install + charge you for the kits (hoses, etc). They really aren't priced for the average consumer, even when they have sales. Also, some big-box stores don't carry all brands like Sears doesn't carry LG which my wife really wanted for washer/dryer.
We ended up buying a dishwasher from a local company because they deliver/install/kit all for one price cheaper than HD, Lowe's, Sears.

I like Best Buy so I hope they don't close up. I enjoy being able to browse the CDs, DVDs, and video games. I have never bought a big ticket item from them unless my PS3 counts but we have bought a lot of video games and DVDs there over the years. Some CDs also. I bought my latest Vizio from Sam's Club on a very good sale. At the time it was hard to find them for under $999. We got this TV for under $800.
VIZIO M470NV 47-Inch 1080p LED LCD HDTV with VIZIO Internet Application
We had our families all buy us gift cards for Walmart (at least the ones that always give us gift cards) so we pooled them together and we were going to get another 42" Vizio. They were out of stock forever (the Razor model which is what we wanted) and when Jr. and I were at Sams one day I saw they had the 47" at a great sale price. It was just over $100 more then the same 42" version. I talked with Maggy and we went back the following day to buy it. We got the last one they had and Maggy had to stand guard over it until I could get one of the large carts to put it on. The guy right behind us wanted one too.
I highly recommend the Vizio Razor to anyone who is thinking of getting a new set. The picture is beautiful and it has Wi-Fi so it's easy to use our Netflix account with it.

I'm OK with buying at Best Buy...I just don't dig their incessant service plan pushing on customers...but I have mastered the art of saying no...so it's all fine by me.
An extremely popular electronic store chain in California is Fry's Electronics.
Fry's is known not only for their huge stores...but also its funky and trippy themes...sci-fi. monsters, Aztec & Maya pyramids, ancient Rome, California God Rush, Wild West, etc...

It's all fine and dandy...but the reason I don't go there often...is that Fry's has a shady history...if you care to read...here it is...

Is that something new? Recent?
The one here in Renton is very simple.
The one in Wilsonville in OR blends in with the strip mall.
The ones in Tempe AZ and Phx AZ on Camelback Rd. didn't have it decked out.

Amazing stores. I wish they had them in Louisville. Of course, in this economy that will never happen. I don't know if anyone is noticing, but our favorite stores are beginning to vanish. Pretty soon all we'll have left are Walmarts and Targets.Comment
