Could BestBuy be the next business casaulty?

I read this online and it sounds like they are hurting. If BestBuy ever closes it's doors that would end the last free standing electronics, DVD, appliance specialty store in Louisville. First it was Circuit City and now Best Buy? THAT would be depressing.

    they won't fail
they just need to stop buying massive stores and getting unnecessary items like guitars and also they are spreading so quickly, each store is getting a lower average

The hard-sell/upsell at BestBuy’s in NYC are reminiscent of CircuitCity before the gave up the ghost. Very desperate atmosphere. Most folks go to stores nowadays to see an item and then order online. Got an iPhone or Android phone? Even easier. Go to a store, scan the barcode, place an order while walking out and that’s it.

Not saying that is good or bad, but it’s reality nowadays.

Best Buy should drop its home appliances stuff...fridges. stoves, microwaves, washers and dryers, etc...leave those to Home Depot, Lowe's, and Sears....and just stick to fun electronics.

I mean...have you ever met anyone who has bought a fridge at Best Buy???

Our local Circuit City was jam-packed on the weekends until a new Best Buy opened just two blocks away, within a week it was like a ghost town. After sitting empty for a couple years, now it's a Marshall's. The last time I went to Best Buy was a couple months ago and left without buying anything, because their formerly mind-blowing selection of DVDs was whittled down to only the big names (I suppose to get people to convert to Blu-rays) and there were less aisles and they were spaced out farther to camouflage the smaller inventory. It's not like I don't want to give them my money, but if they're not going to carry anything I find interesting, I'll just do my shopping online. Heck, when Thor came out on DVD, I just picked it up at the grocery store for $16.99 as an impulse buy. Why go out of my way and take an extra half-hour to save $1? I almost feel bad for them--when they first opened, you could barely walk around, it was so packed.

            exactly
they have so much needless stuff and it gets in the way of normal stuff, also they should drop most of geek squad since to set up a 350 tv it costs 65 to instal it.
all you do is put it down put in the plug
            sit on the couch
turn the tv on and watch this

I worked for a local TV/Stereo store during the 90's that got kicked around when Best Buy and Circuit City came to town. I'm not saddened by this at all.

I bought my kegerator there. does that count? also bought my washer and dryer there

i used to shop there all the time but then had some problems with the Geek Squad taking a month to repair my computer which was under their service plan. they kept telling me differnt BS everytime I called to check on it. as a result I refused to ever shop there again. been a year and never went back

I bought my first big screen TV at Best Buy. It had problems and it took them 6 MONTHS to get me a new one. It was awful. Add to the fact that every time you walk in there you are attacked by employees who shadow you throughout the store, and the experience is just bad. If it's not a Best Buy employee it's an HP or Epson or somethingoranother employee bugging you to death.

I don't want to see anyone lose their job, but it's not surprising that business model is failing.

Best Buy is definely NOT the best price, you can always find there stuff cheaper somewhere else.

These big electronic stores over expand then go out of business.

BTW...Best Buy's service plan is the biggest scam ever...do NOT fall for it...I have NEVER, EVER...opted for their extra warranty...when they start yapping about it when I'm paying for my electronics...I always stop them in their tracks...and bluntly tell them NO...not interested it...and they shut up.

The way I see it...all items have a one year manufacturing guarantee...so the company will cover it...and if it goes without a hitch for over a year...chances are that it's good to go for years to come...it has worked beautifully for me...one time a Panasonic camera clunked on me inside the year...I took it to my local Panasonic dealer...and they replaced it...free of charge...so there's no reason to change my practices.

I once almost laughed myself to death...when I bought a set of headphones for $19.99...and the Best Buy dude said if I wanted an extended warranty on them for $29.99...I told him..."You are joking, right?" He just had this blank stare...you know...like when you catch a deer at night with the high beams on...

                            ...idiots...

At my local Best Buy, the space is 16000 square feet and there is about one salesmen per section
i went on a long goose chase trying to find people in the camera department once and it took me 15-20 min

also i went in there once, bougt a camera that this nerd employee told me worked on getting camera's sreen to be on the computer to do stop motion with he also tod me it was a hight quality camera and when i put it in the computer there was no image and the camera had grainy and grey resolution
