Top 10 is difficult...especially when you're a major Beatles fan. There are so many ways to decide what makes a song a favorite. Mine are emotional attachment and production. Production alone makes it difficult because, if you are into music, and are blown away by the fact that artists like Hendrix,Beatles, Stones, Floyd and so many others did without the luxury of more than 4 track recorders at the time that they recorded their material..that trumps anything that was done after those artists. Hell, look at all the early artists that did their songs in one take like the early Jazz artists as well as artists like Sinatra. That being said here goes:
Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles. One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Masterfully produced by George Martin...George Harrisons shining moment as a Beatle.
The Very Thought Of You - by Nancy Wilson (The Jazz singer...not the one from Heart). Probably one of the most underated voices of Jazz.
Tomorrow Never Knows - The Beatles. Again, just a very hypnotic trippy song. Genius in the way that it was made. Ringo and Pauls rythmn is amazing.
Is This The World We Created? - Queen. Freddy and Queen at their best. Just a very prophetic song. Brings shivers every time I hear it.
Silver, Blue and Gold - Bad Company. Just an amazing vocalist in Paul Rodgers.
All In One Day - Midge Ure. Production of this song is so powerful and lyrically it's such a greatr song.
Layla - Derek and The Dominoes. Clapton is GOD!!!
Funeral For a Friend - Elton John. Elton at probably his finest moments on probably one of his finest records Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
Wish It Would Rain - The Temptations. Amazing production and amazing voices.
Day After Day - Badfinger. These guys should be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame...this is one of the reasons why. Great song, great hook, and great production.
There are so many more that I can add to the list...but those are probably the ones that I can't get tired of.
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".
