You sit and look at how many members of the Yankees are on that list, you have to wonder about their World Series wins.

I have to agree with that, the most fun I had watching baseball besides my Marlins winning 2 Championships was watching that Sosa-Big Mac Homerun race, that was timeless"Time to nut up or shut up"-Tallahassee

Farce. Almost entirely based on information provided by two men who were forced to cooperate in exchange for lighter prison sentences or to avoid prison. The reason that it is so heavily representative of New York ballplayers is because their only two sources are from the New York teams.
Does that mean that those named are innocent? No. But it definitely means that this is in no way a complete list and to selectively slander the few names that came up while ignoring the names of those in other areas of the country is ridiculous. Naming names was an ill conceived way to add credibility to a report that any intelligent person could see was limited.
They would be better served to just say that there were too many rumors and allegations for this not to be a huge problem. The solution or "What next" section was actually excellent. That should have been where the focus was placed; however, that would not please the noisiest factions.
Now the politicians can start grandstanding again - draws attention away from their skeletons - and the media can sensationalise the report by Cherry picking quotes from a 400 page document knowing that 99% of the people are not going to read a single word. (Let's see how many big articles there are about Cody McCay.) Ultimately, there is little to no substance to this entire debacle and I as a baseball fan have to be distracted from what matters by it.
Frustrating.Comment

I've been thinking about what would be the best way to handle this opportunity. I know this may sound a bit insane, but I think Baseball needs an Truth and Reconciliation Committee like South Africa had for Apartheid.
They should convene a panel of people to hold the hearings. It will need government backing. Grant immunity for all players and employees of Major League Baseball, including the associated minor leagues.
During the initial immunity period, all those who have done or provided or even ignored the use of illegal or banned substances will have the opportunity to confess their actions. Let the true nature of the problem become known without the fear of professional repercussions. Something that bold is what it is going to take to get a better picture of how prevalent performance enhancing drugs are in professional sports. Use the process as a model for all the major (and maybe even less popular) sports.
As a nation, we could set the record straight and go back to believing that our sports truly are played on a level playing field.
The government needs to step in to dictate some sort of fair policies and penalties for these current (and future) performance enhancers that can hurt the people using them. First offenses might mean suspensions equal to 1/2 or a whole season of play, but with rehabilitation or education paid for by the owners to go along with them. Second offenses might mean lifetime bans. Institute independent labs for testing that have true scientific community acceptance and validity. Establish clear cut means and procedures for appeals that are not back room jokes. Apply these rules universally across the sports, and take the responsibility away from the so called organizations currently running them, because they are almost universally biased against either the individuals or towards the bottom lines.
Use some sort of government rules to enforce these mandates. These sports rely on TV coverage and engage in interstate commerce. Use the FCC or the FTC to make the owners and leagues comply.
Radical maybe, but if we are truly concerned about the influence of athletes actions are having on our children, we should do something radical about it. We could easily become the model for the entire world on this issue, and the time to do it is now, before Spring Training begins. If it works, the model could easily be applied to the NFL and NBA before the next preseasons begin.

Baseball fans have known this for a long time. I never got caught up in the modern home run races. They kind of ruined things for me because I knew they were tainted. For me, that didn't save baseball, it ruined it and made me not care.
For me, this isn't a sad day for baseball. It could potentially be a great day for baseball, if indeed they do something about it. However, I doubt they will do anything and in the end there will be a political show and after a while it will be all brushed under the table and nothing will be done to correct the situation. It's all one big circle jerk really.Comment

One big circle jerk is right. Having spent a few years working in scouting and player development, I can say without a doubt that this is the TIP OF THE ICEBERG. Until 3rd party BLOOD tests make their way into the sport, which I know Fehr won't stand for, the game is tainted. This is really just tabloid BS. Dont get me wrong, the players had it coming...If they would have forced Fehr's hand into a decent teasting program, then they could have avoided being thrown under the bus by a couple of drug dealers with checkered pasts. Idiots. Selig needs to go back to the used car lot. Ron Santo for HOF '09!!!!!!Comment
