I used to think that the Pawn business was kind of scummy but I really don't feel that way anymore. It meets a need. I also understand that they need to buy it for about 1/2 the price than they think they can sell it. They are taking a risk on the price and how long it is going to sit in their shop. The seller has other ways to sell (Ebay, etc.) or they can pawn it. I know the interest rates are high but again, where else are they going to get the loan they need? As for pickers, some of it might be rigged but I don't think a lot of it is. Most of the stuff they buy isn't worth that much honestly for all the work they do and sometimes I wonder why they walk into a place filled with treasures and don't just go to town buying up stuff. It's not like they couldn't rent a truck to haul the stuff back. In fact, I really doubt they drive all over the country. I'm guessing they fly to location and have the van shipped by train or some other method. No way could they be all over the U.S. in that van.

No kidding on the van. That Pandora's Box neon sign would have been a helluva lot safer with them than being shipped if they truly just drive around the country. Their logo is probably a magnet that they peel and stick on multiple vans that they rent or borrow after flying somewhere. Like you said, it makes no sense for them to walk away from barns full of stuff, only to drive two states over for the same type of items, and then pick a few of them....repeat, repeat, repeat. I think it's a neat show, but none of it makes much sense from the perspective of running a business.
Pawn Stars is hilarious. Rick pulls it off OK, but when Hoss or the old man start regurgitating wikipedia while pretending to be an expert it's ridiculous.
I wish they'd do a show about Count's Customs. Pawn stars could approach All in the Family territory pretty soon.Comment

Not so much a lowballer more than just going after the same $5 oil cans and $50 crusty rusty signs. I love at the end they show his picks Crusty Rusty Sign $50 value $75 = $25 profit (and we only drove from Iowa to Texas to find this hidden gold). With that said, I do like the show. American Restoration is really cool. It is amazing to see the before and after work and honestly, I think the prices he quotes are very reasonable considering the amount of work involved."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
