And, just to put in my two cents, I do think that the whole reason Marilyn is SO endeared to the American mythos IS because she passed before her time. But then again, isn't that the whole reason Heath Ledger won his posthumous Oscar for "The Dark Knight", too....?

Well - I would never say that she's a "pig". I just don't see it that way. I have no problem with sexual women.

There's some historical context at work here too, I'd argue. After the war sexuality was somewhat repressed in mainstream entertainment. Squeaky clean wholesome un-sexual entertainment was popular.

There was kind of cultural counter reaction - which was a bit of a celebration of feminine sexuality. So in the 60s there was Playboy Magazine, Monroe, Bridget Bardot, Sophia Loren, Ann-Margret. Unquestioningly Monroe came to represent the queen of that era, and I believe because she didn't live to age she has remained an icon of female sexuality.

Seriously, if you like comedy movies check out "Some Like It Hot". It still holds up very well.
