Picture this Taylor, maybe played by a Scharzenegger type of some sort
or someone, who smokes a stogie in the same manner (only because I am
picturing a similar part from Predator), Terrorism at it's height, with
the race for nuclear power and small inserts in the evening news paper
talking about them genetically mutating human cells into animals,
particularly monkeys to enhance their abilities and perhaps do some
kind of cell research for replacement organs. Then, of course,
An exceedingly cynical Taylor, disillusioned with this modern reality
he lives in escapes to space to think clearly and to just plain, escape.
Fast forward about 4000 years via time warp and he lands in a hell he
calls the planet of the apes. You can picture the rest.
Why the Hell did they not do it like that. I saw a late Charlton Heston
Interview before he lost it and that was pretty much what he described.
But no! Tim Burton had to get involved and gave this no meaning. Just like,
"Gee, I never knew Icabod Crane was a detective, who knew?"
Not Washington Irving no doubt. Where the heck are the likes of writers like Rod Serling??
Maybe someone should just wipe the slate clean and redo the original Apes remake from
scratch?
I saw the trailer a while ago and it didn't apeal to me, but not for most of the reasons many express here.
I loved the POTA films and they are, IMHO, unquestionable classics. Which, I believe, is all the more reason why they have to be rebooted or redone. What must be respected is the original theme and tone of the original, not the details. If you're simply going to re-tell the story, event for event, there is no reason to remake the film (outside of the huge potential profit, of course ). It was done so well the first time. The only real choice to give it value is to add a new angle or perspective.
I think MicromanZone tapped into why it looks like it might fail for me- it just doesn't feel like the original to me. It doesn't have to have the same details, but it should have the same tone.
Its like covering a great song- the original band rocked that song to almost perfection. Put your own spin on it or just recue the original.
Exactly my point! The only problem with the old one is that the film is now dated. It should be updated with the same damn point to it or at least some kind of point !
