I did not see it myself although my gf told me about it earlier today. I to hope that this movie is way better than the last. It would not take too much effort to out do the last one.
What I am mainly interested in above all from this latest movie release is a new toy line. I hope that there is some cool stuff made from the movie.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009
Too much space. Need more toys!

I'm not a big CGI fan, so I dunno what I'm gonna think about this one. Nothing beats the classics.

'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

The preview trailer shows this film to suffer from the same exact issue all of these “re-imaginings” and modern reboots suffer from: They are so damned filled with “gravitas” and seriousness there is 100% no fun. The original “Planet of the Apes” is a fairly deep film but also had some humor to it that added to the plot and didn’t detract from the film. Watching something like this makes me not care at all.Comment

The real sad thing is if this new POTA flick fails to deliver then the entire POTA is dead for another 10 yrs. I have been saying this over & over, but they should have used the same old school look with a touch up of todays art, but picked up where Batttle of the Planet of the apes left off.Comment

There is no reason to reboot a classic, continue from where lastmovie left off, like Star Trek, Use a new ship and new crew, why try to reboot and totally change it, continue Star wars but after ROTJ, same for Batman,,, there are so many things you can do if just CONTINUE the series..I am MEGO CRAZZZYYY !!!Comment

You can have fun moments in the middle of horror. In the original Planets of the Apes, before the hunting Apes take that group hunting photo, the bodies of dozens of dead humans are around and even included in the picture. When the photographer says “Smile!” that is an incredibly dark and hilarious moment.
There are also similar moments in The Empire Strikes Back: Yoda is a goofy little imp when he first meets Luke, but then terrifies him when Luke claims not to be afraid: “You will be. You will be.”
Spielberg really knew how to do that as well. Remember when the shark first makes it’s appearance in Jaws? “ You're gonna need a bigger boat.”Comment

Right on the button. Very well said, sir.The preview trailer shows this film to suffer from the same exact issue all of these “re-imaginings” and modern reboots suffer from: They are so damned filled with “gravitas” and seriousness there is 100% no fun. I saw the trailer for this, when watching transformers, to me POTA is ape civilisations, the apocaliptic future, time travel, just a world beyond our reality. I personally only thought the first POTA movies were good because of this. At the end of the day this new one, is just a film, about a science experiment, which creates intelligent apes, which go a bit mental, without the whole ape culture, ok a setup for the next one hopefully.Comment

They're never going to make a good POTA's movie until they get a REAL fan of the classic movies to make it.
For one thing, a real fan would not want to re-imagine it.
A real fan would just make a new classic movie
Re-imagined classic movies are for people with no talent.
They take an old idea and just tinker with it ... That's not talent
Someday the masses will realize this and re-imagining will be passé for a while.Last edited by Mikey; Jul 12, '11, 1:55 AM.Comment

Great post, Mikey. I agree wholeheartedly... The last sentence however true, will take a while. It probably will not happen in our lifetime. Sequels and remakes, reboots and reimaginings are just too easy for the studios. Less effort for them, less money spent on development and as long as our culture is content to flock like sheep to anything they crap out, nothing will change.
Just look at the box office numbers for "Transformers 3"... Think they wont do 4 or 5 or 6 or 7??? Unfortunately good business does not always equal good product... or good art.
