Speilberg prepping JAWS for blu ray, stresses no CGI tweaks

Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

I wonder if he knew about George redoing the Nazi falling off the cliff shot in Raiders and if he'll insist that it be returned to the original for blu ray.

He's not calling it "Chief Brody and the JAWS", or "JAWS IV: Amity Needs Hope" either, so he hasn't been brainwashed yet.

I'm not into Jaws anymore...it's so outdated (both in appearance and behavior)...and that flick is nothing but negativity towards these majestic animals called sharks...especially the awesome Great White.

If you want to see true Great White shark wonders...check out the fine documentaries on them...through the Discovery and National Geographic channels...makes the movie Jaws look like...well...bat guano.

The interview with John Carpenter over there is also a good one, if anyone's interested.

Jaws remains one of my favourite movies ever.

I was half expecting Spielberg to do what he did with E.T.... that being to revise a couple of scenes with CGI, clean up some shots, etc.
I wouldn't have been too ****ed off if he'd done it with Jaws, as long as we'd have gotten both versions on the disc.

But he ain't tinkering with it, so that's fine with me.

On the whole, I don't mind directors going back and making subtle revisons to their classic movies as long as the originals are always available to us too.

Not that I'm gonna get this movie on Blu Ray (what's Blu Ray?), but I'm SO happy that Speilberg doesn't wanna muck it up w/ CGI crap. It made Star Wars, (and Star Trek for that matter), look awful. Jaws was made in the 70s, and it's a piece of cinematic history, and that's the way it should look.

Speilberg has always had a lot more class than Lucas.

Lucas, (even though he still makes money) is a joke to many people

            Not Speilberg

              Hmmmm....

Wasn't Spielberg the guy who edited the guns out of E.T.? 'Cos.... you know.... E.T. was WAY too hardcore.

I dunno. I'll believe Jaws hasn't been edited when I see it.

I think they should CG the shark into something much nicer. Like a koala bear. And he just wants to cuddle. It would be a CG koala bear, of course, and totally PC for these modern times. I would also edit out all nudity, smoking, swearing and generally unpleasant behavior.
Other that that, the movie would be identical to the one we've loved for 35 years...

Yeah, he replaced the guns with CGI walkie-talkies!

And he changed the line "You are not going as a terrorist" to "you are not going as a hippie."

Because mentioning the word terrorist in a kids' movie is obviously too shocking these days.

Yeah. I'm not falling for replacing all my DVDs just yet.

Until I see Blu Ray players installed in TVs like combi TV/DVD players are now I have no confidence in the format. The way I see it, if the TV manufacturers aren't getting in on the act yet by putting their faith in combi units then i'm sceptical about the longevity of the format.

Back to Jaws though. I really need to watch it again - it's ages since I last sat down and watched it all the way through.

agreed. I think they even edited the scene in Back to the Future...where Marty writes Doc Brown the letter, telling him he is killed by terrorists...they altered the letter digitally to remove the comment or something.

                        Now, back on track -
I would be interested in the bluray as long as the extras are plenty.
I'd want to see more behind-the-scenes of the shark..never before seen home movies, that sorta stuff.

It's marketing! Removing anyhting that could possibly leave the audience with bad feelings.

The South Park episode on this was pure genius!

I think they should remove ET's dildo-like finger. That thing really offends me.
"Phone home" also bothers me, because it's a cheap ad for phone companies, and everybody Twitters now anyway.
And they should take out Drew Barrymore completely, because she was already stoned at that age, and a bad example for kids.
