USA gets thrashed by Spain 3-0

International Friendly but we were schooled.

I think the best that US soccer fans can even come away from it is that there is no shame in losing to the best in the world and USA essentially had their "B" team going up against Spain's "A" team. No Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley, etc. Dempsey and Bradley entered the game in the 2nd half and the U.S. was able to somewhat compete but it was otherwise ugly. Spain put on a clinic and exposed USA's biggest problems. They do not have a great defense, they have no go to striker to date, and zero depth.

Spain on the other hand had no problem moving the ball. Thank goodness we have Tim Howard. It could have easily have been a 7 or 8-0 embarassment.

It wasn't the score so much as the complete domination. They didn't even look like they were even playing that hard (Spain that is). The US stunned them a few years ago in the Confederation cup "A" squad against "A" squad....and Spain was ranked #1 in the world at the time. This looked like a different Spain team and a different US team. Again, the goals came against our weaker 2nd team but I still think they would have easily beat us even if we had our "A" squad out there....it was more painful to watch than the Barcelona thrashing over MANU. Spain can play...I had some doubts as to whether they really were the best team in the world but have no doubts now. Wow, I didn't see a weak spot on that team.

Just to correct myself it was Spain 4-0 against the USA not 3-0. I was so disgusted after goal #3 I forgot about the 4th.

Thats a good idea, i will have to remember that. If we are losing discount all further goals as they do not exist.

Spoken like a true Englishman The USA starts its Gold Cup tournament against Canada tomorrow night which is why they sat their "A" team out most of the game and had to bring in Dempsey and Bradley to try to minimize any further damage. It was already 3-0 at halftime and over at that point. I think I blacked out by the time the 4th goal was scored.

USA A squad would've still lost at home...this Spanish team is the best in the world right now...and deadly as they come...scary team.

For all its worth...they would've crushed Mexico too...

Hey, yesterday...the USA women's team beat Mexico in the very last minute...1-0...the best thing about the game was watching USA goalkeeper...Hope Solo...

A 4-1 thrashing to Germany in the World Cup. In all seriousness being an England fan has to be the worst. Every single World Cup they field a team that looks promising but falls apart. USA fans want to win but we also know we are still years and years away from being a major contender but we'll get there.....eventually.

I met her a couple of years ago at a Washington Freedom game. She was playing for the Athletica and had her hair dyed black Her team lost and she left the field not signing autographs or anything. My daughter has a jacket from her soccer club where she has been collecting autographs and wanted Hope Solo's. She has a lot of the top female U.S. players and we even saw Mia Hamm at a game and she signed it. Hope was walking back to the dressing room and there is a gate just feet from the locker room that most people don't know about. My daughter and I waited for her and I asked if she would mind signing my daughter's jacket. She walked right up and gladly signed it while I tried not to gawk at her too much. The funny part was no one standing around in the area realized it was her until I said "thanks Hope" and she walked away.

USA beat Canada last night in the opening round of the Gold Cup 2-0. I am still mystified by U.S. soccer. In 2009, they didn't seem to give a rat about the Gold Cup and fielded a 2nd squad team in the finals...Mexico thrashed them 5-0. A few nights ago they host the #1 team in the world in a friendly and don't give Spain the courtesy of playing our "A" squad? It would still have been a slaughter but at least put our best out there. I understand they wanted to hold their best players for the Gold Cup but they shouldn't have scheduled a friendly so close to the Gold Cup. This year they want to win but a couple of years ago didn't seem to care...I don't get it.
