My Grandpa, he was in the Philipines.

He'll be 90 next May. I have that flag in the picture, it was taken off a prisoner that commited suicide with a grenade rather than being held.

i am a veteran of the gulf war and have been thanked on memorial day BUT this is not a day for me or any other living veteran.

it is a sombre day remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives in the service.

I wish no one had to sacrifice their life for their country but i am thankful for their service and sacrifice. to the fallen and their families - i salute you, thank you and send goodwill

My pop-pop, Lindsey Lee Hill, USMC Marine Raiders. Survived Pearl Harbor attack. Served in the Pacific Theater, Guam, Okinawa, they worked up the whole chain of islands to Japan. He did not get to meet his daughter, my mother, til she was 3 years old. He died at the age of 68 from lung cancer. He was my hero.

We have quite a few who served. A few family members paid the ultimate price. I just want to say to all those who gave their lives to give us the freedoms we should hold dear; GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

My personal salute to anyone who served...it doesn't matter if you survived or not. My grandfather was a WWI vet who served in the trenches of France/Belgium had what was called Mustard Gas and became disabled. My father was drafted in the Korean War and saw stuff that he wouldn't talk about. He is gone 17 years now but on days like today I think of him and the sacrifice he paid for our country. I was once told that those who talk the big talk didn't see any action but those who saw serious stuff are silent...and that was my dad. I would ask him questions and his response was always "I can't remember". I was just a little kid but remember that was his response to every question.
"The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

My Dad had 5 Medals he never told us about. We only found out because when he died, they gave us a copy of his service record. I guess it wasn't something he felt you should brag about.
