There is always someone or something every few years whether it be religion, Nostradamus, the Mayans, etc.
Apparently, it is also very common for "Doomsday Cult" leaders to change their prediction when the event doesn't occur and strangely enough, their followers generally believe the leader!!! I just hope this doesn't turn into one of those strange suicide type things that occurs every so often with these groups."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Cognitive dissonance; that which separates us from the animals. I can remember back in the 80's there was a cult in Japan predicting the end. When it didn't happen, the leader apologised and the group broke up. Weird.

I dunno; the suicide groups are sort of a self-correcting problem.
