You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -

Camping had made "predictions" like this before. The world didn't end in 1994 and obviously didn't today. He will more than likely say he miscalculated again and it will unfortunately be business as usual for the charlatan. Hopefully people that were duped by him will take this as a learning experience and won't allow themselves to be taken advantage of like this again.Last edited by Werewolf; May 21, '11, 6:33 PM.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. You guys here about this guy? Spent his life savings on ads:
In New York, retired transportation agency worker Robert Fitzpatrick was inspired by Camping's message to spend over $140,000 of his savings on subway posters and outdoor advertisements warning of the May 21 Judgment Day.
As he stood in Times Square in New York surrounded by onlookers, Fitzpatrick, 60, carried a Bible and handed out leaflets as he waited for Judgment Day to begin.
By his own reading of Bible, which was slightly different than Camping's, Fitzgerald expected the great worldwide event to begin at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
When the hour came and went, he said: "I do not understand why ...," as his speech broke off and he looked at his watch.
"I do not understand why nothing has happened."Comment

funny thing is if you believe in the rapture, then you know only God knows when it will happen. So really if you're trying to say you know when it's going to happen then that's not God's willComment

You have to wonder about all the lives Camping has ruined through his insane rantings over the years. From what I've read, he took in like 18 million in donations for his "non-profit" organization/cult in 2009 and has assets over 104 mil. People have spent their lives savings, got rid of their belongings and quit jobs. Their lives are ruined. There's going to be a lot of confused desperate people.
Did anyone here believe this nonsense? I certainly hope not.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Now these believers are saying it's just another test God is giving them for their faith. Some are still waiting.
This was the best quote I read on the Yahoo news message board:
INSTALLING RAPTURE.
███████████████░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ 44% DONE.
Install delayed....please wait.
Installation failed. Please try again. 404 error: Rapture not found.
EVENT "Rapture" cannot be located. The rapture you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.Comment

>"I do not understand why nothing has happened."
Top quote Penn and Teller: “Ever hear of SCIENCE? Y’know.... where you test something BEFORE you believe it?”
>Did anyone here believe this nonsense?
TONS of folks. Whered’ya think he got the money for the ads?
I dunno.... stuff like this makes me angry and sad at the same time. People NEED to believe in something, but they tend to latch onto stuff with a Vulcan death-grip; ignoring all sorts of external info, self doubt, their own eyes.... But you can’t fault folks TOO much, we are wired for that sort of thing.
There’s probably a ton of folks who STILL believe it; cognitive dissonance giving them all sorts of reasons why it’s still true. “Our prayer vigil saved the Earth!”
>if you believe in the rapture, then you know only God knows when it will happen.
That’s part of the dissonance thing too: folks will overlook their own rules to better serve their current notions. (If you read the bible carefully, the end has ALREADY happened, one generation after Jesus. “In my follower’s lifetimes.”) That’s why I think religion is more a Rorschach test than anything else: what folks tend to pick out of their faith says more about them than their faith itself. With that in mind, I can see folks WANTING the end to come now. Life is hard, stuff sucks more than it has ever before, (not really, but most folks THINK it does) the world is spiraling out of control faster than ever (again, not really but it’s easy to THINK it is) and how awesome would it be to have a front seat at the greatest (and last) moment in time?

That's more dissonance; maybe it DID happen and these folks WEREN'T as piouis as they thought they were. (The catch-22 of piety; pride is a sin.)
