Not a big War Movie fan...but the one that is one of my all time favorite movies out of any movie I've EVER seen is The Great Escape. It's just one of those movies that whenever I find it on TV I HAVE to watch it. Other war movies that are good are The Big Red One, Apocalypse Now, and Saving Private Ryan.
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them
    Isn't it a pity".

    - "Isn't It A Pity"

Lots of great movies mentioned here.

I'm a big fan of vintage war movies, and a lot of the modern ones. Some of the 1970 era war movies are kind of anachronistic -- Oddball in Kelly's Heroes seemed more at home at Woodstock than the European Theatre -- but the modern ones seem to be influenced by the great elements in the classics.

            1. Sgt. York (I'm a sucker for Gary Cooper. Pride of the Yankees is my favorite sports film)
            2. Sands of Jima (Hard to beatJohn Wayne in my book)
            3. Saving Private Ryan (Speilberg and Hanks great combo)
            4. Glory (loved the dignity of Morgan Freeman and the anger of Denzell Washington)
            5. Midway liked how it gave both sides of the story

Also like Dawn Patrol, Patton, Dirty Dozen, Battle of the Bulge, From Here to Eternity and dozens of others.

Man, there are so many good ones. Heck nobody has mentioned Gone With the Wind.

Has anyone mentioned The Bridge on the River Kwai yet? One of the best films ever made, IMO.

Mikey called it in the first post of the thread. Great movie.

Too many to list...but I'll list five that I can watch over and over again.

                    1. Full Metal Jacket
                    2. Braveheart
                    3. Glory
                    4. Apocalypse Now
                    5. Inglorious Basterds

I also like the German movies...Das Boot and Downfall.

P.S. Band of Brothers is the best war mini-series of all times.

The old school war movies are good too...but they are a bit too "one-sided"...if you know what I mean.

Tora Tora Tora was pretty good.

I don't think anybody mentioned that one yet.

As mentioned there are far too many to list. Not sure if Hart's War has been mentioned but it is also a pretty good movie.

What I loved about Bullet in the Head besides the usual John Woo bullet ballet was the other POV outside of American, and Vietnamese for that matter.

                                John Woo's best film IMHO.
