Not embarassing at all. What's worse is having an American accent when you speak your mother tongue...which I try hard to not have but sometimes it's inevitable.

        I also love this movie:

            I'll take my stab

Private Ryan - Perfectly cast. The opening scene at Normandy was both nauseating and fascinating. Coudln't look away. VIn Diesel dies. Cool movie.

Sergant York - Saw this many times as a child on Sunday afternoons. Breaks a lot of war hero sterotypes. Has a lot of heart.

Full Metal Jacket - R Lee Ermy. Nuff said.

Midway - Saw this many times a a youth. Lot's of air combat for a young plane builder. Seem to remember this being overly long.

Inglorious Basterds - I'm not a Tarrantino fan, but this worked. Hans Landa is such a cool villain. Most war films don't have a singular protagonist.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

I was contemplating including Inglorious Basterds, but for me it was a little slow moving.

I'll bet there's a few out there you would like if you gave them a chance ... One example is Sgt York ... A lot of ladies like that movie because it's not gory and "warrish" and even has some tear jerking moments.

And, it stars Garry Cooper -- super-duper

                    I also loved this movie:

I love movies with swords and fighting. I love sad movies, too, tear-jerker movies...so if there's war in the mix, yay!

Jessica, if you got into Shindler's List, I suggest that you check out Come and See. It's a Russian film that is set behind the lines, and largely shows the war's effects on civillians. I always champion this film, which had a big impact on me the first time that I saw it.

It's not to be taken lightly, but is an astounding film.

I'm suprised that you didn't include Ran in your picks.

I'm not much into war movies but thought

Patton, Mr. Roberts and Saving Private Ryan was great.

Also, does The Caine Mutiny count?

I was so tempted to put Ran!!...and there are so many glorious war movies that I have enjoyed through the years. I will definitely watch Come and See...but since I have cancelled my Netflix, I will just buy it from Amazon.

Not fond of war movies, except for these two:

                            1. Apocalypse Now
                            2. Kelly's Heroes
