Think the garfield movies--I'm betting this is more of the same. Not my cup of tea, but some people liked them I guess.

A local tv show did a bit on holiday films out this year today, and showed some scenes from this movie. Have to say I was surprised, as it looks like its actually going to be funny. I too expected Garfield/Underdog type fare, but it looks like they may have actually tried to make a good film here.

I must confess,.. I took the Boy to this today, & enjoyed the movie.
If you like Kid movies, it was a great one for the Family. I found myself Laughing out load a few different times.

I was dragged to see the movie this weekend with the kids.

I was totally prepared for it to really stink but it was actually pretty good.

It uses the same gimmicks of a love interest, a greedy businessman, etc. but I didn't find myself looking at my watch every 5 minutes wondering how much longer to endure and I would actually recommend it if you have young kids.

The audience seemed to like it too. Applause after the showing and a lot of buzz among the younger kids.

This morning I read that it made $40 million over weekend. Apparently, the studio was only hoping for $20 million.

I watched this New Year's Day with the kids. They were enthralled and didn't wander up and down the aisles like usual (even my 3-yo sat on my lap the whole movie). As for me, it was the most wonderful power nap I have had in ages. The movie was incredibly LONG. Everytime I woke up the movie was still droning on. My sister said I snored a few times and she wanted to elbow me awake. I caught her napping too!

I can't believe the amount of uncreative rubbish that is coming out of Hollywood these days.

I thought the movie was good.(yes, being a kid, but one of those kids who thinks more like an adult than other kids)

Plus a family member got it for me on Christmas.

Saw it a few weeks back. My son loved it. I think it's squarely aimed at kids. Little redeeming value for adults aside from nostalgia, but mildy entertaining. I've sat through far worse for my child.

I will say I think Jason Lee is somewhat miscast. His Dave never gets enraged enough to justify the famous "ALVIN!!!" trademark yell. Either he was miscast, or directed to act a little too easy-going.

For a movie that is great for all ages, I recommend "Enchanted".

The way you described it---it sounds more like a script problem rather than
                          an acting/casting problem
