    Front porch or back deck

Okay around here there are basicaly 2 types of neighbors, the ones that hang out on the front porch and watch the comings and goings of the world. The other type hides from the world enjoying the back deck cooking on the grill in private. We are deck people, private and quite enjoying time away from the nosey prying eyes from down the street. So where are you planning to spend your summer time ?

I live in an apartment so back balcony is my only option, unless I want to sit on the front stoop

My back yard is cement. There is a deck w/ a non-functioning hot tub, and some old BBQ grills left by the previous tennants, and a basketball hoop my brother put in for his kids years ago. The only time I really go out there is when I babysit and play w/ my kids out there. I'm a hermit. I'm in my room most of the time, winter, spring, summer and fall.

Don't have either where I live but Back Deck is where I would hang.

I have a screened front porch that rules. It's the best place on nice nights!

Back by a mile....I can do ANYTHING in the backyard...lol.

I really don't care to watch strangers walk by in the front of the house.

Agreed...we have a front porch with chairs and even living on a cul-de-sac without many people randomly driving by...I don't enjoy it as much as the back deck. I really don't care about what others think about my comings and goings but was bothered when our back deck was first built and a neighbor a few streets up mentioned that he saw us having a family dinner on our deck as he was driving by. I planted some evergreens, put up a shed, and stragetically placed a Dogwood bush on one side for privacy. Years later, we can sit on our deck and have privacy for the most part. The neighbors behind us can see us but they really aren't out that much. I have a cube at work and managing quite a few people, just have a lot of day to day contact. I really enjoy personal space and privacy which is just part of my personality. I have found through trial and error that alone time is really good for my soul...I love being around my family and am social in general but have found that giving myself some personal time away from everything is great and pumps me up for the next week.

No back deck, no front deck --- but there's a great pub with a patio right next door!

My backyard is sunken in and almost invisible...like you...I also strategically placed a few trees here and there...and presto....instant cloaking device...lol.

The back fence is even better...I'm located atop of a hill...the neighbor's house is like 12 feet lower...so not even with a trampoline...can they see my yard...

Actually, there are 3 types of neighbors and I am Type3(no pun intended)
Type 3 is the one who works outside all day and would rather spend the summer inside soaking up the AC.

We live 1800 feet off the road with nary a neighbor in sight. We have a big fire pit in our front yard and sit there until the skeeters try to carry us away.
