I just typed this in the google search and this is the answer it gave me "(48 / 2) * (9 + 3) = 288"

I just read ORDER OF OPERATIONS again.

9+3 goes first
Then you divide, but the divide is dependent on a multiply of 2x12.
Can't make this be 288 unless you do it wrong.

That's just not mathematically true. Multiplication must occur prior to division. Those are the rules.

changing them into fractions was my mess up. would be 48/1 x 2/1 x 12 ... I kept trying to use whole numbers on my homework

You can use PEMDAS, but when it comes to the "M/D", you do them from left to right. Multiplication is not done before division, they are done in order, left to right.
